REED JAMES - Hard time with him.

Seems kinda weird that a person would sell on eBay when I'm sure there are customers who have waited months for their purchases.

I'm not defending him, but the stuff he sells on eBay are stock models. The custom orders tend to have the long leads. He's he some definite issues while growing the business exacerbated by medical issues, but I think he has things mostly on track now. If he wasn't pissed at me and he had a set of 5 string Jazz pickups on eBay that were replacements for Dimarzio Ultra Jazz, I'd buy them without hesitation.

Are the pickups on eBay already made? Somehow I doubt it...
All the items posted on bay are ready to ship. I only ship once a week that's why the 5 day handling time. The reason there is stock on eBay is as a company I can no longer run it as a make to order thing. ( I will be still taking custom order's but there will be a waiting time )The demand at this point has overwhelmed the supply. The solution is build inventory, production is not my thing so I am working with a systems engineer to dial all this in. So instead of making just one set of custom pickups ill do a production run if I can . A lot of the stuff that was made to order will be an on the shelf items ( some are available now) Made huge investments in the company to order custom made covers and the odd ball stuff like the MK1 size and the ARIA SB covers that we have to CNC Mill are being done in large quantity's ( some will remember at one time I made all my covers in house ) . At the NAMM show this year we will have examples of the new production models. Yes I have made many mistakes and you would have to be in my shoe's to understand the large undertaking this is. But I am no quitter . I do need help if any one feels that they have a skill that would benefit my company please contact me. we are getting a team together of people that believe in the product . gong to do this.

I am sure you will chalk me up as another Talkbass fool but I am going to give you some extremely sound business advice based on this and the other thread you have bumped: stop posting these messages. It is not doing your company any good and it is doing considerable amounts of harm. I would highly recommend taking a class at your local business college regarding professional communication. It is never in a company's best interest to engage customers in debates, particularly on an open forum.

Great advise. I've been waiting for FOUR YEARS now for a two sets of Wooden Strat pickups.
3 years for 2 sets off Chromebuckers with wooden mounting rings and 2 Tele sets in wood.
2.5 years for the Spalted Maple Woodbucker set with matching rings.
1.5 years for the Birch P-90 set,
9 months for the replacement P&J set of Ebony bass pickups.

All in all, Reed James Engineering has completely dropped the ball. If you were considering purchasing a set of pickups from him that you make arrangements to PAY HIM AFTER THE PICKUPS ARRIVE. If you don't you might be waiting for YEARS without much if any returned phone calls full of excuses.

Thought you should know.Pass it on.

I can't remember how many times I was told that "they'll ship this week". Luckily I did get the pickups, but it was too much hassle. If they're in stock, you're probably safe. Pay with PayPal, not as a gift. Then if you don't have the pickups in hand within 30 days, file a complaint and get your money back. Don't accept any excuses. The pickups are nice, but there are so many other nice pickups out there where you don't have to deal with the hassles. Buyer beware.

Good morning bass brothers and sisters. My experience with Jim at first was pleasant, but then things went south in a hurry. The relationship is so bad now, he has threatened bodily harm to me and has used more racial slurs than I can count. It's been close to 2 years and nothing. He had blamed every delivery outlet numerous times, or would use the "I'm shipping them Friday" excuse more than I can count. I'd post our conversations, but it would be moot at this point. It's nice to read some success stories, but what I've read so far, the bad experiences outweigh the good. I've chalked up the close to $2000 I'm owed, as a loss, but I am going to print out all of our correspondences and all the receipts, and take them to my financial institutions Internet fraud department, in hopes of recouping my money. All I can say is beware of this man, and use other options, because the headaches are not worth it. I hope that all of you who are waiting on pups, will eventually get yours. With that being said, I am done with Reed James engineering forever!

I have a set of Ultrajazz 5 string sized Jazz pickups that you can have if that would help at all. I'm going to throw them out. Basically, I won't put them in my instruments and I'm guessing you probably don't want them in your basses either. It's like bad karma.

Thank you for the offer bass brother, but as you mentioned, it's bad karma. Burn that crap and post a video. That would give me so much pleasure! I hope you're doing well Bass brother!

As a possible alternative to burning, if you can find a worthy player or project to which to donate the pickups, that might obviate some of the bad karma -- or you could sell them on TB or ebay and donate the money to your favorite charity. If you want to warn the buyer/recipient against ordering new pickups you could direct them to the relevant posts in this thread.

If you need to toss them, burn them, or otherwise ritually sacrifice them, though -- if there are too many negative associations to keep them and if sending them out into the world would spread bad juju -- then do that.

Good idea bass brother!

So I ordered A pair of pickups for My SX Ursa 5 string which Jim said he could make. These were ordered on July 25th, 2016. (as stated on my paypal receipt.) I was given some of the same customer service you folks received (It'll ship out next week, My CNC is down, etc.) for the last year and change. I bought these at the recommendation of a friend. He said they were the quietest pickups he had ever played with. I found out later that He was dealing with the same issue as many people with his second order from Jim.

Jim seems like a really nice guy, and I understand that things happen but the information that was given to me via email, text message and Facebook messenger kind of left a bad tast in my mouth. I had gotten to the point were I wanted a refund. Jim assured me that they would be on the way. The pickups still didn't show. I hope things get better for him but I can not recommend his services at this time.

He did reach out to me and say that he needed my address yesterday to ship my order to me. Hopefully they actually ship.

Start a dispute with paypal immediately.
