I'm wondering if refins affect the value and/or sound of a bass. Is it worth buying a bass even with a nice, well done refinish?

Investment: find one that's original and it'll net you more down the line, even if it's bad shape.

For something collectible, figure a refin, even a good one, cuts the value in half over a good condition original finish. For something that just sells as a used instrument, probably not much of a hit now, who knows in the future. It isn't like there is a shortage of sunburst 2003 J basses out there.
What is it, and what do you want to do to it? I was going to have a bass with a bad finish on it refinished , and the cost of stripping was so prohibative, it was less hassle just to buy a new warmoth body and have it finished from scratch.

It's a 1982 Gibson Victory Standard Bass. It was originally silver but it's now white.

If it has been refinished once, doing it again won't hurt the value further. I've seen a number of refinishes to vintage pieces to undo crappy refinishes done in the past.
