Refusing to play at places where smoking is allowed

I agree. My post was in response to someone who said, what about unfortunate souls that don't have the skills to work anywhere but in a bar. If those are your only skills and you don't want to work in a bar, then get new skills. I'm not telling anyone to get an education. It's everyone's right to remain ignorant.

You obviously haven't been following this thread, My post was being facetious.
Take a second to go back and read Posts: 176, 183, 192, 196.
You will see that this has already been covered and what my position is.
BTW:
My woman has a B.A. and is one of the smartest people I have met.
She has been a Bartender for almost 20 years.
She works a 6 hour shift (11 - 5) weekdays only.
She averages just over $100. in tips A DAY and doesn't work very hard for it.
She has said many times, "why would I want to get a real job?"
I agree with her!
Maybe........everyone that works in a bar isn't there because they are too stupid to do anything else.
Like NYC. When smoking in public was outlawed in NYC lots of cigar bars either closed or were converted to non smoking establishments.
There's only one real cigar bar left in NYC that I know of and 2 or 3
private clubs that got around the ban.
Forget about ever opening a new one

I don't know how true this is, but my local tobacconist was telling me about a cigar bar in NYC that pays thousands a month in fines in order to operate. They pass those fines onto their customers for their fees, but I also heard that they have been on the verge of shutting down several times. Like I said, I don't know how true it is, but the additional costs would make having a place like this prohibitive.
If she's smart enough to figure out how to make a living doing what she likes then she's smarter than most people!
Guess what? When last call is over and the door is locked the ashtrays come out for the employees and band members at many venues I play locally where smoking is prohibited. You guys will still be breathing those deadly secondhand smoke particles the next night! Breathe deep and enjoy your certain hasty death!

Hahaha. Ain't that the truth!!
I wouldn't doubt it. Remember this is the city that just outlawed "The Big Gulp" and tried to outlaw the use of salt in restaurant cooking.
There's actually more than 1 cigar bar left - it's more like 5 - but they are a dying breed and new ones cannot legally be opened.
I should make the trip to Hudson Bar and Books for a martini and an Arturo Fuente before they've gone up in smoke.......

They should do like NYC. Lock the doors afters hours with the REAL local crowd and play with those toys...then ash into plastic cups filled with water while playing with super sized happy meal toys and fries cooked in the "bad" oil.
