I missed your clips the first time you posted, sounds cool but the camera didn't pick up any bass at all. I just hear an occasional rumble, sorry.

My main bass is Reggie Hamilton P/J 18v pre w/ '00 MIA rosewood Jazz neck. But I get my ultimate dub tone from a Fender Bird ( T-bird body w/ 50's classic P neck) this will rattle your bones. All played thru GK MB212 for the sweetest tone with Sansamp for balance.

I saw Ziggy Marley last night, and got to watch Pablo Stennett work his magic. He was playing a Fender Jazz 5 string through SWR gear. Not sure of the amp model but it looked like his cabs were 4x10 Goliaths.
The sound was mixed perfectly, and Pablo just held it down. Really solid player. He tended to play between the pickups, rather than at the neck. He used the low B string quite a bit, and played mid neck a lot, which is something I plan on trying.
The credits on Ziggy's latest album have Darryl Jones fron the Stones playingin the studio, but Pablo held his own and then some.

Reggae is the coolest style around to play on bass. It's challenging, laid back, rythmical and it spreads a message. Bob Marley is a hero of mine and let us not forget his bass player Aston 'Family Man' Barret, one of my main influences.
Boy, I'm so glad I managed to push trough some small reggae parts in our new song. I hope it will be on YT soon.

THE original Bassie, so sad to see him go. True inspiration to me and everyone that followed in his massive footprints. He was there at the birth of modern JA music and through many of its big developments. RIP Lloydie!

I'm in. I got into reggae a couple years after Bradley from Sublime died so I've been playing reggae for about 12 years. I was living in Las Vegas at the time and Slightly Stoopid, Pepper and The Expendables were starting to get big. It was my gateway to learning more traditional stuff.
The Cali - Reggae, Reggae/Rock, Reggae Fusion (Whatever you wanna call it, Lol !) movement is not only bigger than ever but it's gaining more and more momentum. Reggae music is huge where I live now in Northern CA. Much bigger than in Vegas. Teenagers sing to songs the way they do/did to pop stuff. I notice all the time (that at clubs we play at in a variety band I'm in) that more young people are apt to start dancing when we play reggae vs. other styles.
The messege in the music is so much more important than in other styles of music which is very,very cool.

In 2001ish I was a sub in the local band Lucky and the Zionites during a few months time of transition. Lucky is a songwriter with a passion for reggae and the gig was half and half cover/original. I had my trusty Stingray 5 through my then Sansamp BDDI and Walter Woods head into an old Carvin 410T, with the tweeter turned off. Bass EQ was slight bass boost, sometimes slight high cut. GOBS of defined low end. I learned by diving into Marley and others how the bass drives that music and it was true love.
Now I am still a sub for many players and styles. And still often the token white guy with a passion for groovy music. I hold a part time church band director gig where I am also the bassist. We are diverse and unique as a church and as a band. The lead pastor and his family (all musical) did a few years in Jamaica (some of them sing and lead on stage). They are very familiar with the Island music and encourage it. The drummer is "Bam," Bootsy's current touring drummer. Very often a song morphs into a reggae beat (almost always initiated by me) and Bam and everyone immediately hop on board and we all get the looks of approval from everyone (especially those who "know") and the room starts swaying. I still use my Stingray 5 or my trusty P-Bass with aging Chromes, tone rolled back a third. I like to leave the mids, and I add lows by my technique.
