Let this thread/club live on! Our band Inity has been doing a lot more dub lately. Our front man is getting pretty good at playing (my) melodica too. We've been known to put some heavy reverb and delay on the drum kit at any size venue as well. I now have a looper and delay pedals and a theremin. I'm already in this club, thanks to honorable Jluckie3!

I play in a Roots Reggae band called "Arise". We play Stuff like Burning Spear, Midnite, Abyssinians, etc.... the real rootsy, dubby stuff.
In fact, Midnite is probably by far the best roots reggae band going right now (check em out here )
I play a Pino P-Bass through a Markbass LMII and an Epifani 410UL.
Been thinking about ditching the rig & going SVT. ANy thoughts?
I love being in a band where everyone is always asking to turn the bass UP. Greatest feeling in the world is grooving on a bass line for 10 minutes without changing one note, and seeing people groove their asses off to it, then scream for more when you stop.

i play an svt and that girl gets DEEP, the secret to my reggae tone is the subs on the pa that we spec for each show, (4 dual 18' yorkvilles) and my radial JDI

I'd personally go for the SVT rig, especially if you are playing a Pino signature. A P and an SVT are a recipe for disaster....in a good way that is. I haven't really been to any real reggae shows, but I saw Lionize live last year who play stoner rock influenced reggae (a bit strange, I know) and their bassist was playing a Lakland Bob Glaub through an SVT stack and ,boy, did his bass sound monstrous. Extremely up front, aggressive, in your face tone that still retained huge amounts of bass without sounding too grindy or lacking any low end. Probably one of the best live tones I've heard in person.
Anyway, that's just my two cents on your situation.
My Sadowsky 5 string jazz with flats does it for me! And to back it up, a Steinberger L2. JL3 Is the Lakland a Jazz bass?

Wow, some serious roots music right there. Fantastic players, nice voice, great meditation. Who plays bass with them?
Ron Benjamin (plays a fodera). Their drummer is a monster too. That bassline for that song is SO far behind the beat it's awesome.
I also really like their vocals - a lot of Ethiopian in there I think, very unique.
I simply can't get enough of Midnite. Some of their stuff is a bit "slick", but live they are monsters. They have about a billion albums:

agreed. and i'm not a fan of tweeters for reggae, i have an svt classic and it has that low rumble without any artificial tweeter sizzle
Greetings & blessed love, gwan blaze de bass fyah. Nuff raspek fe a reggae thread dred's. Ordered an SVT Pro 4 lastnight, cyann wait for it to be delivered....soooooo excitements. Our band 'Daddy Teacha & The Rooticals' has also landed a gig at Reggae vibe festival in the UK which we feel very blessed to be asked Invalid Link Removed. We do a UK roots vibe, jus starting out.

Hey everyone, I'm a fan of reggae, and now that I have a turntable, have been wanting to aquire some nice reggae albums.
This week I picked up these 2 LPs:
Toots and the Maytals - Reggae Got Soul
Reggae Greats - Pablo Moses
But I realize now I want Reggae with some serious bass tone! I've been listening (mp3) to the first Bad Brains album (1982) and I dig that heavy bass tone on their reggae songs.
Can anyone reommend other Reggae bands with that massive low end sound?
