all right then Jluckie3. you say its ok i will join. i play a schecter five string and a fender amp that isnt great but i mess with the equalizer a bit and my bass and get a nice sound. i shall double my efforts to learn more reggae tunes.

Not playing in a band at the moment due to my young family.
But played trumpet in a trad/2-tone style ska outfit and then took up bass to join a rocksteady group, The who sadly disintegrated a couple of years after i joined.
Back then i was playing an el cheapo ebay bass with the neck pickup all the way up and the bridge all the way down (although i didn't know it at the time - just knew it sounded right!!).
Now i'm on a fender jazz special, precision all the way up, touch of jazz for a slightly sweeter tone, soft soft fingers at the neck, rotosound flats. and looking at 15 cabs at this very moment!
I can slot in on any rocksteady number you care to name and more or less taught myself to play by teaching myself the sound dimension lines, but enjoy the full spectrum and my favourite number to play at the moment for sheer pleasure is Darkness by Black Uhuru... just a great line that one.

New band, Hot Dub Bikini Party (Link Removed) up and running now. Currently in the studio recording our first demos.
We mix it up with a bit of punk/afrobeat/indie as well, but primarilty reggae and dub.

You mean Lee Perry era Wailers? Some very fine music there, my favorite Wailers period by far.

Hi, everyone! I love all roots reggae, ska, mento etc. My favourite reggae artist is Jackie Mittoo. However, where I live there's not much good reggae music, most bands who have a touch of that play basically ska punk or so, which isn't that interesting to me. If I could find people to work with here where I live I'd love to play some mento as a side project besides my regular band, just for fun. I'd love to find some good mento records. Any idea where to look?

It would be great, I'd maybe prefer to get a banjo for it then to do the keys, there are far better guys to handle that then me. But, anyway I'd love to do something like that!
Well unfortunately the chances of me getting to Croatia in the near future are slim to none. 
But keep looking for like minds - you'd be surprised how many people are under the woodwork (or how many people in the ska-punk bands have more of an idea than you think). And if you can't find any like minds... make some, be a trailblazer.

Stanley Beckford continued doing great Mento for a few decades, some recent albums are out there, too.
