I still think of Reggie Workman's solo on "Footprints" (Wayne Shorter, Adam's Apple, of course) as one the most beautifully formed pizz bass solos I have ever heard.

Reggie Workman has always been such a wonderful musical voice. Thanks, Damon, for bringing him up.

Just listening to the newest Trio 3 album, 'visiting texture'. Trio of Reggie Workman, Oliver Lake and Andrew Cyrille. Its gorgeous, and Workman, who I think is now 79, is playing better than ever!

Along the lines of a couple of posts on this thread, I've been lucky enough to get to know Reggie through my teaching at the New School, and in the past couple of years we've become pretty friendly. He's part of the no b.s. past of jazz, something that is in short supply on the current scene, and also a guy who has been able to reconcile the dilemma of playing creative music and making a living, something i think about a lot living in the county with the highest property taxes in the nation (the same county he lived in for a long time). I've always really liked what he does on this track, especially in the 1:47 to 2:15 area

I love this opening solo on a tune called "Nommo" from an album from the '70s with Sonny Fortune as leader. It's funky, stately, funny...and when it ends, he lays down a big fat carpet for the horns to play on.
