regular stingray VS classic Stingray

I tried a Classic Stingray that I loved. I will buy one in a near future.

I also tried a regular stringray that I played only 5 seconds on it, I didn't like it at all.

the classics was alder/rosewood while the regular was ash/maple.

But I was wondering what are the main difference between the two?

reg stingray 3 band eq, classic has a 2 band, also the classic has string mutes and a slab body.

What about the reg ray,did you not like?

The sound was different.
The classic was full and warm.
The regular one had more bass and a lot more highs.
I play only fingerstyle.

Compensated nut for regulars and slim nut for classics and String through body for classic and bridge through for regulars..

I just picked up a classic and this thing has tone and sustain Galore
I like it better than my mia P! ps the 2 EQ is really nice and the strings through the body YIKES!

This is my favorite knob on the 3-band EQ.

I think aside from the EQ and string mutes, the classic uses a ceramic magnet instead of the regular one. I was talking to my former bass teacher who works at GC (poor guy!), and he was telling me about them before they got it in. I think that's also why it sounds warmer and fuller.

The classic Stingray has the same alnico pickup as every other four string Stingray. Older standard Stingray 5s had a ceramic pickup, but since about 06 all Stingrays (4s and 5s) have had alnico pickups.

13-1/2" wide, 1-5/8" thick, 45-1/2" long (34.3 cm wide, 4.1 cm thick, 115.6 cm long)
The standard 5 states this:
13-3/8" wide, 1-3/4" thick, 45-3/4" long (34.0 cm wide, 4.5 cm thick, 116.2 cm long)

It looks like what they refer to as "thick" is actually the width at the nut. I don't know what their "wide" refers to.

There is certainly something special about the Classic Stingray combination. I am ruined by it...I love it more than I've loved any 30th Anniversary 'Ray. The 2 band EQ has "sweeter" Mids built in and the Lows and Highs are smoother. It truly sounds more like a vintage 'ray and to me, that is good. They are worth the extra $, IMO.

I've had 4 or 5 other Rays over the years and none compare to my new Classic 4. Besides the physical differences, the build quality and attention to detail is much better. Also, my birdseye neck/fretboard is to die for

Thanks. I really need to get my hands on one. I tried the Classic 4 and it's the only gloss neck that I liked ...and I really liked it.

You can, as long as its a 4-string with a single pickup.

The Classics have a 5er with the 2-band, plus all the other features listed above are included in the Classic line. I am absolutely in love with the Classic 5. If I had the means, I'd snag one in a heartbeat.
