Reidmar 750

After a few searches, it looks like there are no threads dedicated to the Reidmar 750. I was hoping that those who own or have used the Amp could post their reviews, thoughts, and settings here. Mine is slated for delivery on Saturday! :bassist:

You'll see a few comments - mostly questions - on the EBS Club thread, but, curiously and annoyingly, there still don't seem to be any major US retailers shipping them. Thomann is at least selling them in Europe. The control layout looks just like that on my old Drome and HD350, and I'd be totally jazzed to be able to buy a 750W lightweight amp with the same Drive, Compressor, and EQ. A pity it won't go down to 2 Ohms, but then, there aren't a whole lot of Class D modules that do.

From what I gather, it is using the new ice module which is in the Mesa D800 and Genzler Magellan. I wonder if EBS just decided not to put in a safety circuit to allow 2 ohm use. They were thoughtful enough to show us how to chain two together though.

I've taken a good, close look at this one as well. It reminds me of the Gallien Krueger MB800. I wonder how close the Reidmar 750 gets to the GK sound?

My main gripe would be only one Speakon jack on the rear of the chassis. And 2-ohm operation would be very welcome. But it still looks like a lot of amp for the money...and it's hard to beat EBS for a modern, yet refined kind of vibe (my thing).

Bump for a reply from @3rdcurve...

It is very much a more refined MB800, with a similar noise floor. If you like the GK zing a good twist of the bright knob will get you very close. The unit is substantially larger, but feels higher quality. The knobs are much sturdier. I have to say, the built in compressor is pretty nice and I use it at all times. The Drive is fantastic as well.

Cons in for me would be:
Doesn't appear to be 2 ohm stable like the Mesa or Genzler. A bit noisy, on par with the GK. No mute switch(I use my tuner pedal). Would be awesome to have a switchable drive section with seperate level control.

That being said, this is my favorite head I have owned for the money and a very good value.

Well, that settles it then. I must have one. A more refined MB800 suits me just fine. And only $569 at RMC Audio, last time I checked.

There are some sound samples on the thomann site but for the 250w-head :

(make sure to select AAC 256 bit on the ... )

Doesnt tell you much about how the control will affect the sound though.

By the way, is the Genzler Magellan in fact stable at 2 ohms? I thought it went down to 2.67 ohms (three 8-ohm cabs) only.

The Genzler Magellan 800 is rated for 2.67 ohms and the Reidmar 750 is rated for 4 Ohms. I have tested these amps side by side and I was extremely careful not to get this mixed up; didn't want to let the majic smoke out of the Reidmar:) The Genzler has a switch on the back of the amp for when operating at 2.67 ohms - and I was careful about that too!

That's a 25% difference. With impedances that low, the differences in current draw can be substantial. So no, I would NOT try to run a 2-ohm load with an amp rated down to 2.67 ohms.
Just to clarify, the Subway has specific enhancements that allow it to be stable driving a 2 ohm load. This is not the case with all amps using this power module and I strongly encourage folks to pay strict attention to each manufacturer's recommendations. I would hate for anybody to make an assumption that could lead to unintentional damage to their amp.

Yes, the fact that the Reidmar 750 doesn't seem to be able to go to 2 ohms is what is keeping me from buying one.I have an older HD 350 that was rated for 4 ohms and eventually EBS made them for 2 ohms. I had it converted and It works great. I still need more power on some gigs and that's why I also have a Eden WT 550. But if EBS would make the Reidmar 750 2 ohms...... I would get one right away.

The Reidmar 750 has the "vintage warmth meets modern articulation" sound of the original Reidmar, but of course with more output power. It's not as pristine and clear as, say, Bergantino B|Amp, Glockenklang Blue Sky, or Darkglass Microtubes 900 (in clean mode), but it is very articulate and balanced, and it definitely has some grit and warmth that lets it work well with more vintage style tones. I dig it!
