Thorkild has been busy! Yesterday Remic announced the 5401 model. My understanding is that it’s pretty much the same as the older models, only taller to compensate for overstand.
The other exciting news is that there is a new bass mic on the way which I will be beta testing! Thorkild had this to say about it:
“It's just me naming it "the funky one" - based on its characteristics. The plan was to ensure less distortion issues and connectivity to low impedance audio
transformer inputs (vintage style equipment). We have rearranged the cartridge design and the acoustic lens inside the mic-housing - so this model is very rich on output, especially in the low end - not missing accuracy or details though - but it goes "scary" deep - try it out with a bow
This Low-Frequency richness can easily be eq'ed using the FELiX - if its too much.
It might be beneficial in conjunction with small combo amps - supplied with 8" or 10" speakers.
Anyway - you will be the first to check this model out - and I hope that you will provide audio samples as well as critical comments for internal usages, so we know in which direction to tweak this product
Cheers\Thorkild”
This is all I know at this point. Mics are on the way and should arrive in the next week.
Naturally, a full report will follow!
