Removing paint from original finish

Hey all! Long time lurker, I don't post much.

I picked up this Aria Pro II bass locally. It has flames painted on it that I would like to remove. Appears to be clear coated over. From a little research I have done, I believe the original finish is polyurethane. I assume the flames and clear are lacquer or enamel.

Am I correct in thinking lacquer thinner won't harm the original finish?

Any thoughts/ suggestions are appreciated.

Lacquer thinner is strong stuff; it might work, but be sure to test it in an inconspicuous area like inside a pickup rout or under the truss rod cover or neck plate for example.

Thanks for the response. My bandmate's think it's"rad" the way it is. I may just leave it for now. Now to fix the neck dive issue.
