If the scratches aren't too deep, there's quite a few products out there that will remove the scratches permanently.
(other guitar polishes simply temporarily fill the scratches)

I've tried a few others (Novus, Planet Wave Restore etc), some worked fairly well- this is the best of the lot imo. I buy and sell a number of used basses so I do use this kind of product frequently.
