I played a Renaissance Nylon string guitar today. I stopped by my local Sam Ash to check in on their status given the recent thread on them being okay.
I was surprised to see it hanging in the acoustic room (didn't know they were a Rick Turner dealer). I didn't bother plugging it in but it was nice to play it acoustically, albeit with little acoustic output to speak of. They wanted 3K for it; knowing SA prices that has to be on the high side, I would think.

I knew they had a new Model One bass listed in inventory for a while.
I've entertained ideas of a Renaissance guitar for a while. I would almost have to have Rick build what I'd want though, and it'd be expensive. Prohibitively so, maybe.

Maybe Rick would take "The Chain" in trade.
I honestly don't know how he'd feel about that bass. While the Chain Bass is 100% modern-day Alembic, at least part of the design is straight from McVie's '76 Custom, which he certainly had a major hand in. I'm guessing he probably doesn't care. It's a shame, but even with 40+ years under the bridge there's still enough bad feelings that those two entities basically just ignore their common pasts and don't speak. Which I guess is best.
Now if I were going to commission a Turner Renaissance guitar... hmmm. What the heck...

I have a Renaissance guitar, really like it. Plays beautifully, loud enough unplugged acoustic and sounds great plugged in.

Well I did a dumb thing with my Renaissance... I put it in a wall hanger which has foam round the bit the headstock sits it, pushed it slightly back as I put it in and split the headstock veneer on one side 
Luckily very minor and it's in with the local luthier for repair. I've asked him to look at putting an access panel by the volume and tone pots, not definite that he'll do it but hope so...

That's probably an easy fix/touch-up. It'll be okay. (I fix stuff... my first Series I had a headstock delamination, job number one was a reglue and press on an earlier example of RT's whittlin'. The outer layers of Zebrawood were letting go after 45 years.Well I did a dumb thing with my Renaissance... ...nuthin' a little glue and pressure couldn't fix.
I'm curious about how that access panel cut works out. I'm 100% sure it's been done, but I can't seem to find it. The Volume and Tone pots and maybe a blend sweep are mounted on a plastic plate, fastened to the upper bout. I remember thinking it was slick.

I'm guessing James is being cautious, but he is a skilled luthier I've known a long time so it's in good hands

Rick Turner friends... Here's a Renaissance fretless 4 string at Guitar Center. (It's at the GC location right by me.) If you're looking for a fretless Ren 4, this is a good one. A 2003 version in outstanding condition. Cedar top, walnut body. Nice headstock that goes well with the cedar top. Seems to be a good price at $1,399.
