For Model 1 basses, if you are not using the active EQ, is the bass passive and not using battery power?

Good question.

*I don't know the answer, but I am inclined to think that the preamp still needs power, whether for the piezo or the magnetic. I think the treble-cut tone circuit is purely passive. The parametric eq is an active feature.

You got me wondering. I guess try taking the battery out and see if the blame thing works?

I have a likely flawed narrative in my head that Rick meant the tone knob set all way up full on a Renaissance as an "over the cliff" setting. Meant for unusual sounding rooms and playing situations where a little extra treble kick might be warranted.

Otherwise it's far too strident for me, so I knock it back some. I'd rather do that then sand the windings of a set of Acousticore strings or use flats. This seems to be the most natural, pleasant sound for me. Most of the players I know who own these basses follow the same strategy with the tone knob.

The tone knob on the bass is set no more than 50%. One of the tracks had the amp set flat, the other track had amp mids and bass set at 9:00 (i.e., cut 25%).

I play with mine rolled almost completely off, unless, and only unless I am playing through a lowpass filter. Yeah, it's just too much *zing*.

*this little do-dad is a ton-o-fun with a Renaissance.

I've now gotten used to the concept of this bass sounding like an acoustic instrument, a nice alternative tool to have.

I find that a very old set (10 plus years)of TI Acousticore strings sit just right with my Rennaisance fretless

I just ordered a set of T-I Jazz Rounds for the Electroline... I've had that bass out in the on-deck stand lately, and... I had the T-I PowerBass Rounds on it for a hot-minute when I first got it, and hated both the zing and the gauge... I just haven't heard it with anything other than the Jazz Flats for almost ten years. It's time to change it up.

Report coming in a couple days. I might try to record something too, something I've been messing with. With the untimely passing of Christine McVie, I went back and revisited the Buckingham-McVie project from a couple years ago (2017...?) John and Mick laid down all the rhythm tracks, so it plays like a Fleetwood Mac album without Stevie Nicks. Arguable, whether or not it is that.

Anyway, I think John probably played his Turner on a couple of the takes. I can come closer with mine than other basses, for sure. I believe the Jazz Rounds will get me the extra clarity.

Yep, it's an adjustable mute... and nope, it was on there when I got 07-2551. I have used it on occasion. Works okay. Not sure who made it... D'Addario Planet Waves maybe? I can't recall seeing another.

That looks like the thingy. I have only used it sparingly, just a few times. It does what I think it's supposed to do, that's about all I can say about that. I may get bold enough one day to peel it off of there.

Its a little bit of carryover... from those other basses RT used to build. @RVBASS and me sometimes refer to them by their stamped numbers... mine has a funny little oopsie from the factory. See if you can see it-

I'm pretty sure I bought this one in August of 2013. Right about the time I joined TB. I remember the circumstances... I was at the Old Fiddlers Convention in Galax, it appeared on ebay, and... all my gear cash stash was with me at the Fiddlers Convention, just in case something I couldn't live without showed up for sale there. So I drove 100 miles back to a branch of the bank my PayPal account was attached to, and re-deposited enough to BIN.
