Older Model One bass on ebay here... might be a deal to be made. I think getting that piezo strip secured back under the bridge is probably an easy fix, and personally I wouldn't have listed the bass that way. Anyways, other than that issue, it looks pretty straight. I'd make an offer, but I'm trying to get the collection down a few.

I've had the Electroline 5-string out in the on-deck stand this past week, playing through some of the late/great Christine McVie's music. She had George Hawkins for most of the tracks... no idea what gear he plays, but the Electroline can dang-near do it all. Covering modern adult contemporary pop was no sweat for it. She was such a treasure. I really think she was the musical brains behind Fleetwood Mac.

Fun tune to play from her 2004 album, In The Meantime... her nephew, Dan Perfect on guitars.

The battery pack become disconnected during shipping and I have not had a chance to repair that yet... but I have been playing it and it sounds and feels amazing. I use the Acousticcore strings on a few of my other piezo basses so I am used to their unique feel.

I'm looking forward to hearing it through my Aguilar rig next show!

As an aside, RV suggested these Model One settings to me the other day, and i tried them out last night with my old Walkabout Scout 15, set pretty much flat. The bass is set: with the pickup pan hard panned to the Magnetic neck pickup. The treble bleed 1/4 opend, and the master Volume at 95-100%.

The volume is actually off in this photo, and I’m cutting some mids with the active EQ as well. The Pan control is the middle one in the line of three, just a touch of piezo for clarity. :)

Welcome to a New Year on the Rick Turner/Renaissance Guitars Thread!

Hope you all had a restful and enjoyable Holiday Season, with maybe even a gig or two in there.

Sadly, we lost a genius and giant in the world of guitarmaking this past year with Rick's passing, but how great it is to have these fantastic tools he made for us to work with! And the good news; it looks like the remaining staff at Renaissance Guitars is still putting out instruments. It remains to be seen whether they can keep up the innovative mindset that Rick had, and keep developing, or if they'll just build stock for sale, but I wish them all the very best... hats off to them for carrying the weight. It's good to know that there is at least a home base, and some degree of technical support.

I moved along two of my Turners to new homes this year; the fretted Renaissance 5, and the fretless Electroline 5. Both, I'm happy to report went to players who were looking for something special... something not just anybody would understand. They are in good homes, and that was what I wanted most. My fretless Renaissance 5 that I got from RT himself, and fretted Electroline 5 remain, along with the Model One twins, bass and guitar.

Excellent news... I'm very glad to hear they are on top of service work out there. Any clue who is running the shop now, that we can share here? I haven't reached out in a while... at least not since RT passed.

I have my fretless Renaissance bass out in the on-deck spot right now... been playing through some new tunes from a bluegrass band I like a lot. I haven't tried it, but I think the necks are interchangeable with the Electroline 5. (if I ever wanted to experience it fretted for a while, and vice-versa)

As far as I know everyone who was there is still there and they are forging ahead. From the looks of social media postings they have been cranking out Model One guitars, Electroline guitars (these are great, I bought one early last year), and Renaissance basses and guitars the past several months.

Interchangeable necks, interesting! Maybe I can order a fretless neck for this bass in case I want to try it again that way sometime. :)

I want to use flats on my Renaissance 5 bass. I bought a set of TI flats, but the B is way too thick (.136). Does anyone know if TI makes thinner B strings, maybe .118 or .120? For now I’m using a Labella low tension flat B (.118), but the sound is not the same as the TI strings (E through G).

I used TIJFs on a previous Ren 5 fretless I had. I remember the B being a very tight fit through the string ferrule but I was able to get it through. I am assuming the fit is super tight on yours? Is it the silk or the string?

yes, it is a tight fit through the hole due mostly to the silk. But also, .136 puts a lot of tension on the neck that I would like to avoid.

Well, I had to cut a bunch of the silk wrapping off the string, but I was able to get that monster .136 B string on my Renaissance bass. I am surprised at how bright sounding the TI flats are, almost like a round wound string. I’m hoping they mellow out a little as they break in. But the good thing is that all of the strings now have the same characteristic tone. :)
