I've been listening to two Scott Martin's CDs on which Rene Camacho is the bassist and all I can say is WOW Camacho is the real deal! The way he artfully blends chops and musicianship is inspiring, and his sound is killer!

The two recordings are:

Rene Camacho is a super nice guy, badass player and a buddy of mine! Although, that's not him in the youtube clip.

I met Rene at the Tamale Festival in Indio, California a couple years ago backstage, I forgot the name of the artist he was working there. Super cool guy. He was playing a Fodera.

I once went to a jazz club in Fullerton, CA called Steamers and he was playing with a Latin jazz group called The Estrada Brothers. He was playing his baby bass and boy did he kill.......on grooves and solos.

I've heard he also works with congero Poncho Sanchez.

Resurrecting a 5-year old thread here, mostly just to see if this will actually work. (grins)

But I've been obsessing on some world/latin-influenced fusion, primarily (but not only) Strunz and Farah, which led me to Rene Camacho. Man, this guy is just amazing. The intricate sensitivity and chops he shows supporting TWO monster lead guitarists. Fantastic.

And I don't know who did the monstrous work on Selva (also Strunz and Farah, but that track is spectacular in its way also - I was riding a bike when I first heard it on my iPod, and just found some empty parking lot to ride circles in as I listened three times....)
