Double Bass rental gear - suggestions

I have been asked by the leader of a group I play with the give him a gear list for rental on out of town gigs. Specifically the amp. I have to keep it to things that can be easily rented in most towns world wide. I always go mic only to a pa but use an amp for monitoring. Suggestions?

I would imagine Hartke Kickbacks would be easily found in most areas. We have two at school and with a little EQing, they sound wonderful.

How about the GK mb150?

They were pretty much the standard DB rig before the Acoustic Image/ Euphonic Audio/ etc revolution.

I use a GK MB150 now and love it. If we play some larger venues I use it will an extension cab though.

I was considering something like a GK 400RB and a Hartke 4x10 or something so I can cover any size venue. I've had that rig rented for me before and was reasonably happy.

All good suggestions. Since most amps don't have the right input impedance, except the GK that would be my first choice. Another thing you should consider is taking along one of FDeck's HPF Pre Piezo Preamps. Since it has a 10 megohm load, notch filter, and a phase switch it might get you out of a lot of bad situations.

I totally agree with this. I love that little box. It lives in my bass bag with a shorty cable and I've pulled it out more than once to get me through a gig where I was faced with playing through less than stellar stuff or in a hellish room with my regular stuff.

Oh and that's a High Pass Filter not a notch filter. Even more useful on bass.

With that you can probably get a usable sound from just about any stupid bass amp you are forced to tolerate.

I may get another and put it in bigger box with a volume knob and a passive DI circut in it one of these days.

I have a Fishman Platinum Pro that I use for the same reason as FDeck's thingy. I rarely touch the eq, just the hpf and the phase switch.

Sorry Phil, I just ordered mine and forgot that little important fact.

Exactly how I used it this week. I can't believe he made and "acoustic" amp and left those two crucial things out in addition to no balanced DI, but left in a damn fx loop.
