Double Bass Replace Nut and clean up. (long long....)

Please be noticed that I am really beginner on double bass.
I got first one last year but later found that's 1/2 size and doesn't really fit to 6' guy so got another cheap one again last one since I have lesson appointment tomorrow.
But nut has been reversed by precious owner

so I decide to fix it before lesson and order blank one from ebay, named "finest ebony nut". Whatever ~.
I made it square angle at work so I can use weekend.
FYI, Old one and New one at bottom.

It was bit hard to remove precious nut and clean off the glue spot. Chiseled, Scraped and Sanded.

I put the nut and nut's little short so....I use maple veneer what I used to use for guitar making.

Thought you might like to see my recent professionally reworked nut. Notice how very little of the string is sitting in the slot. I'm no luthier, but I believe round files are used for cutting the slots.View attachment 414981
Very nice - and I like the string routing, too! ;)
