So I just installed the speaker and played around a bit and so far I'm really liking it, of course it needs breaking in a little. It also has more than enough high frequency response for what I want to to with it so I'm glad it worked out thanks to you all. My first impression was how lighter the driver is compared to the original one, I really did not expect such a huge difference !

Don’t buy into the whole break-in myth either, there will be almost no difference after 100 hours than out of the box.

You can break a driver while attempting some of the foolish breaking methods promoted on the internet though…

The CD has a special green Sharpie edge and comes with CD balancing stick on weights. If you can’t tell the difference after the first 20 hours of continuous playback then your neighbours are deaf or on holiday.


(I should add for clarity that many drivers do change quite significantly after a few hours of use as things that start off stiff are exercised and reach their quiescent stiffness. But there’s no ‘woo’ there. So, yeah buy my special CD and it’ll transform you into someone with a special CD)

Well no I did not intend to do anything other than playing it a lot…Can’t say I have ever noticed a difference but I’m more used to 50+ years old speakers than brand new ones.

Quality modern speakers should NOT change significantly, if they do, there are design or material issues that need to be addressed. I set test limits to less than 10% change (typically see less than 5% shift in Fs for example) after 200 hours when powered at 6dB below rated mechanical power.
