Double Bass replacement endpin collar?

years ago i stripped my endpin screw and the metal collar that goes with it. its long gone now, cant find it. for years ive just been using the endpin with a pipe clamp around it and basically sliding the bass down on top of it. it works just fine, but im kind of tired of not being able to move the bass with the endpin in. when you lift the bass it just falls out. so, my question is, can you buy somewhere a replacement collar and screw? can you rig something up somehow to keep the endpin in the bass? some other type of clamp or something? the wood plug is fine, so would hate to replace it if i didnt need to.

Yeah, Great sound! A couple things... 1. That collar should be there even if the screw is not. The bottom of the socket is in danger of cracking without it. 2. If you do find the collar you can get someone to tap a new hole in it and get a new thumb screw. I doubt very much if you could find a replacement collar. You could always have one made, but unless you have a friend with a metalworking lathe, it won't be cost effective. 3. Listen to Greg. You deserve a decent endpin assembly!

wow thanks for the compliments! maybe the secret to my tone is the lack of an endpin being mass coupled with the bass?? just kidding. that collar is long gone (lost it 20 yrs and 5 or 6 apartments ago) and the wood plug hasnt cracked yet... maybe ill try to rig something up with a rubber band for now...

Fixed! and it only took 20 years to come up with it!

That will give your playing a more 'elastic' tone.

Seriously, if you are intent on keeping that pin you might be able to get a radiator hose clamp and replace the screw with a thumbscrew. This would go at the very bottom of the plug, just above the clamp on your pin (which you would keep). This would serve to keep it from falling out, replacing the rubber band. The question is whether thumbscrews are made in a sheet metal thread.
