Replacement for the old sky-blue package Fender 7250 strings. Rotosound RB45?

I’m looking for a replacement for older Fender 7250M strings, which I like a lot, and in my search, I came across couple postings in which was suggested that Rotosound RB45 were pretty much the same strings in terms of their feel and sound.

I came across an older Bass Player Magazine that reviewed a number of string and rated their sound across individual frequency ranges (low, mid and treble), including Fender 7250M and Rotosoud RB45, and this review would lead one to believe that these two string sets are very different, RB45 being significantly brighter, however, I have never used RB45s, and would be very interested to hear different opinions on this, as well as other suggestions if someone has come across an adequate replacement for this Fender set.

I can also attest to what many people have already mentioned: soundwise, current Fender sets with the same name/number unfortunately don't have much in common with these older sets.

I used to use the old package Fenders as my go-to strings, and based on the Bass Player comparison you referenced, I bought a couple sets of the RB 45.

I really like these nickel Rotos - they have the warmth of the old Fenders. Lows are deep and mids sound nice and fat. There is more high end information, but it's not sparkly or zingy once they break in, just more pronounced. Feel wise, maybe a hair less tension than the 7250, and they definitely don't feel as rough as a set of Roto 66..

I'd say try a set yourself - if you sign up as a TB member at BassStringsOnline, the RB45s are like $13 a set.

The old Fender 7250 strings didn't sound much like anything else. A lot of bass and lo mids, and a very mellow top. A "comfy" sounding string on a P or J bass, and a good string to tame down a bass that needed it.

To me, GHS Boomers come the closest in sound to the old Fenders--lots of bass. But Boomers don't feel like the old Fenders at all.

I don't find the RB45's like the old 7250's at all. I have yet to find a string that replaces those black silk 7250's yet. If you look at that review, IMO nickle rotosound swing bass look closer than the rotobass 45's. i tried the Rotobass 45's and found the tension, feel and sound way off from 7250's. They were too bright in the 2k range. The lows lacked the same mid-bass punch. More of a modern sound to me than the vintage vibe 7250s. The reviews also for Swing Nickles vs Rotobass are different. Rotobass swing has the growl that the 7250's had, so that is why my recommendation goes to Swing66 over the RB's.

Also very interested in the Dean Markley Super Bass, but they are not reviewed on that pdf.
