Replacement Pick-Ups For 51 Fender P Bass Re-issue

Hi i'm new here but i was after some advice!

What it is, i have just bought a 51 P Bass Re-issue and have heard about their weak stock pups! So i was lookin at re-placing it when i get my bass, but to what?

I know Seymore Duncan do about 5 different types of re-placement pups but i was wondering which was best for my style of play (Rock, Reggae, Blues) and is it worth shelling out extra for the Antiquity Seymore Duncan Range?

When I had one of those basses, I replaced the PU with a Duncan Antiquity I. I was very happy with the tone. This particular pickup is very close to the original in design and construction.

I've read a lot more reviews that love the pickup than ones that don't.

The best advice I ever received was to use my gear for awhile before I started worrying about modding it. After you're familiar with the stock sound you can decide for yourself how you want to change it and go from there.

Don't change the pickups just because you've heard that they are weak. Use the bass, play it extensively first before you decide.

Agreed. I have tried the Sting bass and that bass has a wonderful sounding pickup, I wouldn't replace it if it were my bass. I would assume the '51 reissue has the same pickup.

I put a Lollar pickup inot mine along with CTS pots, and a Hoveland tonecap and it was a nice improvement in tone.

Nothing weak about the pickup in my '51 RI; in fact, it's pretty d@mn powerful.

sound guys cheers for the advise. I'm expecting i tomorrow so i'll have a play for a couple of months and see before i go in to my wallet.

I'll get some pics up of my 'asthetic' mods soon as i get them and fit them.
