Replacement straps on Ibanez bass gig bag

I have a great gig bag from Ibanez but the straps are falling apart. Thinking about cutting a bit of the top of the strap, sewing the ends (to avoid fraying) then adding a metal ring to attaching a replacement strap.
Anyone have any other ideas?

This is the bag now.
As you can see the strap on the left is much more worn. I was thinking about cutting that strap right at the crease (in the other pic) then sewing a new strap on - but if I can get away with glue or something that can work too.

I'd take it to an upholsterer and see what they could do.
