I'd like to replace a bullet tweeter in one of my 2 way cabs that has a 12" woofer and a 4 inch round bullet tweeter. For bass it's great, but the tweeter's high frequency falls off way early for me to use the cab for anything else. The cab will only accommodate a 4 inch round, possibly a 3.5 inch square tweeter because it is a very small cab just big enough to hold a woofer and this particular bullet tweeter. A 4 inch square horn tweeter can not fit in the available space.
I'd like something of high quality, and 3 possibilities (once again because of size restraints and they'd be a perfect fit) are a Beyma CP22, B&C DE35, and a Morel DMS 37.
Here's what I don't know.
I don't know how much power is being sent out of the crossover to the tweeter, and I have not been able to find out (and I've tried). I also don't know where the crossover point is.
Here's what I know.
My cab is rated 400 watts RMS, 2 way, 4 ohm, very efficient 100db SPL @1W/1M. I use an Acoustic Image Clarus 2R, Series 3 that puts out 400 watts into 4 ohms with this cab.
Both the Beyma tweeter and the B&C tweeter are rated at 107 and 108db SPL at 1W/1M and have listed power ratings of 25 watts nominal power handling and 50 watts continuous power handling.
The Morel tweeter is rated at 93db SPL @ 1W/1M but has a power handling rating of 200 watts, and 1000 peak.
I expect the B&C and the Beyma tweeters to be superior sounding (and my preferred choices between the 3), but I don't want to blow them up with too much power. Since crossovers only send a fraction of the power to the tweeters, I'm wondering if the 50 watt rating of these tweeter will work for me, especially since I really don't know what is coming out of the crossover.
If I had to, because of power requirements, get the Morel tweeter, how well will that, or any other very low efficiency tweeter work in this otherwise efficient cab? Not enough sound to balance out the woofer?
