Replacements for 92 SR800

Recently bought a1992 Ibanez SR800. Love the feel but it had a couple of wiring/pot issues.

If it comes to it, I will prob think about replacing pickups with something passive and straight 2 vol 2 tone knob set up. I have been looking through old posts, but not finding exactly the right info needed at this time.

What replacement pickups would drop straight in with no cutting of the bass. No matter how well that is done, it always looks bad.

oh, and good pickups, but not high high dollar if possible.

I recently picked up a used SR800 and it sounds great with the original pickups. Maybe swap EQ for an EMG BQS? that should be a very compatible fit.
If you decide to go all passive, tho- those EMG Geezers get great reviews here, and they're passive. The one possible issue is the length of the jazz pickup, and the standard P pickups are a little larger (1/16th" or more) than the AFRP halves- may be a tight (or too tight) fit.

I can't help with pickup size but if you go passive, you'd better find an arrangement other than double tone. These won't work well in passive unless you add a selector switch, as they interact a lot.

Will keep that in mind about controls.

So, no readily available pu's really fit if they aree sized like reg Fender replacements? That makes a replace difficult.

Some have said the pickups are passive and the battery only drives the tone controls and pre amp. If that turns out to be the problem can you wire the pickups direct to new knobs? Will they be strong enough?

Apparently yes, they're passive AFR. Good pickups, worth a try.
You can remove the preamp and plug them directly, it won't hurt.

AFR = Active Full Range. ADX are Active, DX are passive.
The red wire in the diagram you attached supplies the power (+) to the pickups, while the shield is the ground (-).
They may be powerful enough w/o the preamp (EMGs are) but they still need 9v to power the internal preamps.

Oh yeah, my bad. I didn't spot the battery in the corner and at first sight I thought it was just a separate ground and shelding.
They're active indeed on 4 string, which is coherent with the 20kohm balance pot.
The diagram is for the 1994 model though, schematics At Ibanez's site don't go further. The 1992 model may be a bit different.

That schematic applies to all the models with AFR-P, AFR-J, and ADX-5/ ADX-6 pickups as far as the pickups go. I have a '98 that's the same, as well.
Somewhere just before '94 they used a 2-band EQ, so that is different, but the pickup wiring is the same.
One day, I'll bypass the EQ just 'cause, to see if the pickups work that way as well, like EMGs do.

I just really hope after reattaching the battery cap to it's wires and cleaning it out, that the bass works now. Reworking this does not seem to be an easy task.
