Replacing Octave Multiplexer with OC-2?

I love the tone but hate the volume drop when on and the weird glitchy/warble-y thing it does when I hold notes. I guess I'm going to try and replace it with the Boss OC-2 which is pretty much the standard octave pedal around here and it's also what I was looking at before I decided on the Octave Multiplexer. Does the OC-2 have a volume drop? :hiding: Someone suggested returning the XO OM and getting the bigger version and building a clean boost IN it.

EDIT: How are those Ampeg Sub Blaster Octave pedals? I might try to buy one of those.

The OC-2 does that warbling thing when notes decay too. If you have any dead spots on your neck, don't play those notes through an OC-2!

It also has a slight (3db-ish) volume drop if you solo the octave down. I think it's OK if you have the regular guitar signal maxed too, but I haven't done that with mine for ages.

The only way ALL my problems are going to go away is if I drop $200 on a MicroPOG. But I'm not doing that just for octave down.

It depends what you want. If you're after the most reliable doubling effect you can get, then yeah the Micro POG is probably your cheapest option.

I don't really think of my OC-2 as an octave pedal, I think of it as "that OC-2 sound". I run it on one channel of a Boss LS-2 (everything else is in the other channel) with just the 1 octave down voice soloed, and use the LS-2's boost to bring the OC-2 level up to wherever I want it, thus negating any volume loss. And I'm happy to play around its tracking idiosyncrasies for the noise it makes, I love it.

LS-2 acts as a blender so you still have your original sound and the octave sits below it. The octave will be a little dim (unless the LS-2 has some sort of cool boost thing I don't recall), but you won't feel like you have to hit some kind of a boost with the octave to be heard.

He wasn't replying to my post, but to clarify: The LS-2's level knobs provide up to +20db of boost on each channel. I only use a bit of it.

Each time I try to sell my LS-2 I find a new use for it. :)

sure, but it's gotta warble after the note dies!? though, imo sustain is not what bassists need much of anyway


on the other hand, the digital units (that track very nicely) just don't sound the same imo (i tried the HOG), so there's a trade-off... you can't have it all :)
