Returning bass after changing strings?

View attachment 5408353
Kinda hilarious to me... The replacement bass looks like it came with D'Addario strings instead of the stock Yamaha strings.
The TRBXs from the 304 up all come stock with D'Addario strings. Maybe someone had already changed the strings on your first one?

Strange... Someone else in this thread mentioned Yamaha ships them with their in-house strings, so I assumed that was the case. I also seem to remember them having brass ball ends. But the product page for the TRBX 50x does clearly show the D'Addario colored ball ends:

And, like you showed in your image, the europe.yamaha.com lists D'Addario as the strings on the bass (though the brand and gauges of strings seems unmentioned on the US website).

I'm totally open to the idea that I'm misremembering, or that the strings on my first bass were changed out. They were pretty bad on the original bass, but the ones on the replacement seem normal to me. Odd!

That was me, turns out I tunnel-visioned while looking for the gauges/brand and found my way to old info in their FAQ. usafaq
The colored ball ends are also on the USA site! I just wasn't paying close enough attention. :wacky:
Sorry about that!

Call them without giving any account/sale-specific information, and ask what the protocol is. That way, you can get the info you need without tipping your hand. I would imagine they will want a regular set of strings put back on it, or they will charge you to do so. I'm not sure if that instrument can be sold as new now.

After the first page, I was kinda disappointed even further with the human condition by all the "return and don't say anything" reponses and skipped everything up until this page.

Sweetwater is so good about returns. No restocking fee and they don't even deduct the price of the candy that I eat first thing when I receive a package from them....:roflmao:.

However, I would let your salesman know want was done to the bands before I returned it. Actually, I would go get a set of strings locally and put the bass back to the regular B-G tuning. There was nothing wrong with a string and tuning change to see if the bass would work for you. Since it didn't, the decent thing to do would be to return in the condition you received it.

Whether anyone at Sweetwater would notice or not. Hey, they aren't Guitar Center....:D.

Just do the right thing.

For what it's worth to anyone, I'm amazed with the customer service at Sweetwater.

For one thing, I got the replacement on my doorstep the day after I asked for a replacement.

I didn't mention the string thing at all to them (as I said, I switched the strings out so that I'm not sending them a non-standard strung instrument) but I did bring up that I liked the look of the wood grain better on the original. They offered for me to ship the original to them for free, they'd replace the faulty electronics, and ship it back with overnight shipping. I could even keep the replacement until I got my original back. I think that's outstanding service!!!

I also got a new sales rep and we chatted on the phone for over 30 minutes about our musical journeys.

This sort of above-and-beyond customer service is very easily going to make me a lifelong customer.

I ended up saying thank you so much for that awesome offer, but I'm gonna stick with the replacement for now. My friends convinced me the replacement looks cooler than the original

Edit: Image comparing replacement to original is on this post

The only time I had to return something to Sweetwater, I went out and bought replacement candy. Now, I don't eat the candy unless I'm absolutely sure I'm gonna keep the item.

Of course that’s the right thing to do…,

I guesssssss…….:D

Oh, I got a recent story about that…,

I bought the Digitech Drop and it didn’t work out as I hoped. Of course, I huffed down all the candy.

So when I returned it and in exchange for the Helix Stomp, I figured they would keep the candy.

So imagine my surprise and delight when I opened the new box. Lo and behold, not one, not two, but THREE packs of candy!

Man! That’s service! :D

If you're not worried about the cost of the strings, why is this even something you'd need to discuss? Just put the same strings back on that it came with. That would be the right thing to do, for both Sweetwater, AND the bass manufacturer. Contrary to what some people believe (as they think only MF does it), Sweetwater will be repackaging and reselling the bass. That makes it unfair to whoever purchases it, too.

The original strings were cut-off.
