Reverb increasing seller fees

I’m changing my tune (pun intended).

I need Reverb. Fees be damned.

When I list things on TB they don’t sell.

Unless it’s the hottest piece of gear on the planet or bargain prices things don’t move on TB.

Everything I sell I list on TB first.

I then have to move it to Reverb in order for it to sell. And that’s usually at an even Higher price than listed on TB.

TB buyers are too picky or too cheap.

“What’s the nut width in thousanths?”

“What’s the weight of each tuner clover?”

“What is the % nickel content of that bridge?”

“Great piece of gear, nice, I love it, but don’t want to buy it”

These are exaggerations but you get the gist.

If Reverb charged 10% I’d still make more there than here.

Any sale is better than no sale.

Long live Reverb.

Over the business ethics. You don’t handcuff your customers in a down economy.

People feeling handcuffed by this are not their target customers. They are customers on the fringe on their target market, and Reverb clearly doesn’t believe this group makes up a substantial portion of their total business. Reverb is gambling that the number of transactions lost by this change will be offset by the additional proceeds.

Reverb knows when CARES dries up career musicians who have been gigless for months on end will have no choice but to sell. They expect a flooded market which means lower transaction amounts. They’re trying to get ahead of that by increasing their take at the expense of people who are hurt by a shuttered gig economy. That’s how banks behave. I was wrong not to expect it from a company that’s supposed to be for musicians by musicians.
