I have a Mercalli and a Dub King, but would be eager to try a Thundergun if I could find one close by. Same pickups, same vibe - guess it would be mainly a question of balance.

Well, that model Thundergun will be getting harder and harder to find as the years go by, while that particular Mercalli is quite common as far as Reverend basses go.
Used Thunderguns usually sell for $900 or so, but that model sometimes sells for more than a new one.
Looks better, too.
Regardless, anyone who knows Reverend basses knows that other than the necks, they're pretty much the same bass, same pickups, same electronics...some of the basses made, imo, but still the Thundergun rules when it comes to the cool factor. Not to mention, you can always say "I was thinking about buying a Thunderbird, but believe me, this thing is better!"
(Both should be around eight pounds...Korina. Never saw a heavy one.)

In the end the Mercalli was the right choice for me, it was also the better deal. No regrets (or perhaps I don't know what I missed?). But it's very accommodating to different styles making it a true universal bass, which is what I was after! Now that I have that out of the way, I can build the collection further
