You're welcome. Are your pickups too close to the strings? I've had that problem before and that certainly helped. What kind of DR's you using?

Low riders. Funny you mentioned the pickup being too close to the strings. I bought the bass from Guitar Center used ( CHEAP) and when I started looking over the instrument I noticed the screws holding the pick ups were loose. There was 3/16th of an inch of vertical play. The screws holding the bridge and tailpiece were also loose. There was also a compound twist and bow in the neck, which is why it came cheap.

The good news is I’ve have mastered the use of a philips head screwdriver which took care of anchoring down everything. The neck just needed a truss rod tweak, and a slightly lighter gauge of string. Pretty much, there isn’t a whole lot of adjustment left for those pickups to lowered further.

Let me know if you do! But keep in mind that these GHS strings are the polar opposite of SuperBrights in tone and stiffness.

The Balanced Nickels are not for everybody. Neither are the Super Brights.

They are also not necessarily for every bass. I’ve not used Super Brights, but I have tried several DR strings. Not using them on anything now (I have 3 passive Fenders) but I can imagine acquiring a bass on which I would prefer a DR string over Balanced Nickels.

I ran them through the body, so if he doesn't mind that bend at the saddle, I'd be happy to mail them to him.

I'm happy so many of you are experiencing the qualities of pure nickel strings. They sound great. From what I gather, manufacturers stopped making PN strings only because the price of nickel increased hundreds of percent in the late 1960s. It wasn't because they suck, LOL. So NPS strings became the standard.

Appreciate the thought but the next build is straight loading (not through) so they wouldn't do me much good.

Full-bodied, warm and smooth, they're still clear and focused. Not for zing lovers.
I have the light set (40-101), which I wouldn't describe as being "stiff", although they're positively firmer than one might expect from a round core.

Well, at least you've tried...

I gave up on the 760FL because I wasn't getting enough mids. I could FEEL the lows alright but they often got lost in the mix.

Just just spent a whole weekend with the BNs and no problem being heard as well as being felt. I didn't think they were lacking in lows at all.
