Review : Green Matamp GT120

Heya mates! First of all I got to admit that I`m not a bass player at all. But I love how it sounds so much that I pick one just to kill my fingers completely after guitar practice

So I was lucky enough to take this modern Matamp GT120 to my place for a couple of days. Good gent gave it to me.

It has 4 x EL 34, loud as hell even if the volume knob is at 8 o'clock. I know that this amp is supposed to be a guitar amp but surprisingly it has enormous clean headroom, at least with single coils on your bass. I believe it can do overdriven sound w/ bass but without pedals, but this crazy volume may kill you. The drive knob adds dramatically BIG volume too after 1 o'clock.

Unfortunately I`m not skilled enough to play funk music that I like which is originally played with clean sound. So I stomped on boss hm-2 that just can't sound like on the video without old orange/matamp style amp. So it is still shows how this amp is cool and unique

I have a 70s White GT100, similar but with a master volume, I am letting it go because not used in favour of my Green GT200.

doesn't sound bad but it's too fizzy in the top end for me. prefer my gt200, if anything i would use the gt120 as a second rig to provide more presence. could be the hm2 creating the fizz though, i wouldn't mind hearing it without the pedal. and dude your wrist is gonna get wrecked with that technique.

Yes I got to take at least a couple of basic lessons for the bass guitar playing technique

dunwich built one already, called the Mostly Harmless Bass Preamp. 2 channels one based on the matamp ormat and the other an ampeg style pre. i believe the channels could be blended together. originally it was built for Ron in Bongripper since then it's been with a few other TB stoner doom bassist members.
