Well got the replacement today and yes there is no problem with the new one staying clean ( a relative term) at any volume .. My guess is it had to be a defect in the first one , tube tone on this one works well and when turned off goes back to a clean sound. will try it out tomorow night at practice at stage volume with 2 15's and see how it sounds. thanks once again to all who chimed in
