RHCP's New Grooves - Flea's Most Musical Playing?

I was hesitant to post this cause I didn't want to be 'that guy' who starts another Flea thread... but honestly, I'm digging the new album hard. I'm not even a Flea homer, nor do I want to argue about if he's over-rated or blah blah blah... I'm just curious what y'all think about the album now that the whole thing is out?

I dig it a lot! It just sounds like them jamming in a room, which is how that band sounds best.

I listened to the whole album the day it was released on Spotify, and so far my favorite bass line is Aquatic Mouth Dance. I'll be looking out for a transcription of that one.

Okay, I've now sat through the whole thing. My opinion hasn't changed.

Some folks have mentioned it sounds like friends jamming, I'm inclined to agree, and like when my friends and I jam, it's fun for us, but I wouldn't make anyone else listen to it.

Sounds like he's employing some new techniques (palm muting, incorporating more chords in certain songs), not bad at all.

Im on the same page as the OP. I've never been a Flea worshipper but came away very impressed with his playing this album. For a guy who could easily rest on his laurels it is awesome he continues to evolve as a player.

Flea plays great on this album. The album itself is not very good, there are only a couple decent songs. Fleas playing is the only good thing about it.
