In a wood related vein I got a call today from [Invalid or Expired Link Removed], which is where we purchased the body and top woods from. They were following up on our internet order to make sure the wood arrived safely and that we are sastified with the purchase. This was unexpected, but I must say that it put them at the top of my list of preferred vendors.

Here's a shot of them both together - the body wood is on the left, and the fingerboard wood is on the right. There is definitely some color contrast - the body wood is a bit darker.

The figuring matches up quite nicely. I like the tiny bit of contrast between the FB and the body; it'll keep the FB from getting lost.

We got the board from NorthRidge Hardwoods. They worked with us to find the best match based on the pic we sent them. It turned out really well as far as a match goes.

Wood porn! A trip to Austin Hardwoods yielded a quartersawn board of Peruvian Walnut that is an excellent color match to the back wood. Of course I could not resist the Alder on sale for $2.90BF and brought home some of that as well. Next steps will be to get a body template cut out of MDF and build a pine or alder prototype to get into Ron's hands so we can make sure everything is going in the right direction prior to cutting into the pretty wood. ;)

I got an email from Michael that had some sound clips... basically which sounds better? Clip "a" or clip "b"? After listening to the clips I am happy to report that the clip I liked best was the Lace Alumatone in the MM sweet spot (my prefered pup in my preferred location Maybe my hearing is better than I thought. I find it reassuring that my original decisions for this build are being reaffirmed in actual practice.

On another note, Michael is ready to put the Sonum Experior into my hands to fine tune the pick up location, it is just a matter of getting through the Metroplex when he can shake loose for a bit.

Everybody loves a little confirmation :). I'll be interested to hear how the Sonum Experior idea works out from both of your points of view; I had a similar concept rolling around in my head some time ago but never brought it to fruition like Michael has.

I love having the Sonum, and it's been an indispensable tool for me.

Sorry to hear that your kids are sick, my friend... Hope they get to feeling better soon.
The wood for this build looks fantastic!
And you are obviously giving all due diligence towards excellent customer service...this is like watching a master from back in the day ...when pride in craftsmanship and integrity were paramount.
Can you dig it!
