She was a pretty successful artist back then. OTOH groove to spare wasn't the first thing that came to mind when I thought of her. OTOOH I would've had no problem sharing in her success. It's a gig.

BTW with $400K I would've sprung for chips, too. maybe even Pringles. And napkins. Nice ones.

Sometimes you gotta 'dumb' down to earn a decent living! Look at Jimmy Johnson with James Taylor. Nathan East with Eric Clapton, Phil Collins or Babyface. There are lots more. It's not always about chops and showing them off.

uh I'm pretty sure that there living is MORE than decent but you're right it's not about the chops.Anyway I've seen Prince quite a few times and to me Rhonda did more than held it down IMO she was consistent and precise (I mean,we're talking about playing damn'er 60 to 75 cities night after night)however the the tightest bass player that he had (besides himself)was Brown Mark IMHO.
I did get to see him with Larry Graham and it was Graham's vintage tone that was noticiable more than the tightness of that band. however the Drummer (Michael Bland)was a human"Thunderstorm !

Groove is all about space, and for that many musicians in Prince's band to groove so well without getting in each other's way is tougher to do than some crazy Wooten/Pastorius/32nd note chops. And IMHO its more tasteful (musical).

,but you're talking about a whole different approach to those destinct styles of music,but I feel ya !
