RHYTHM Guitar - a lost art?

Ah, yes. Pretenders, one of my all-time favorite bands. Chrissie Hynde can play a little rhythm guitar, can't she?

Another player who comes to mind as a great "rhythmic" guitarist is Billy Gibbons. His ability to play leads and still have it sound like a rhythm guitar underneath is really something else. If he wasn't the caliber of player he was, ZZ Top as a trio would never have worked.

Yeah, I love The Pretenders. One of my all-timers, too.

My guitarist's hero is Billy G. He loves Gibbons' sound, loves the way he plays. Guitarist has managed to incorporate a lot of Gibbons' technique, but with a much more Dixie-fried feel. (Being from SC/TN, the boy just can't help himself...LOL!) He's very good at doing that "play lead/maintain rhythm" thing. I love it!!! Nuthin' better in a guitar player, IMHO.
