Rickenbacker 4003 Pricing

I ordered a 4003w in June from a local dealer for $1,620. I looked and called around and thought that was a fair price. They called Rickenbacker while I was standing there and said that the delivery could take eight to twelve months. To me that isn't an issue. It's paid for and will almost be a nice surprise when it shows up.

As I understand it, the 4003w is supposed to be a 2014 only model. My guess is that they are waiting for all of the orders to come in and then they will do a last run of them after the first of the year.

Don't know how you get that. I've not seen any indication from RIC that the W is this year only. Surely, if it doesn't sell, then they won't make more than they can sell. But it looks as though it is selling fine.

I wasn't sure where I read that, but I remember that I had.

This Ebay ad states that it is a 2014 only model.

Admittedly, I don't know the validity of the claim. I knew that I had read it somewhere, this is possibly where.

A perfect example of a seller trying to justify his premium price. Now, I could be wrong in the end, but I've not seen anything from Rickenbacker to suggest it is "2014 only."

Thanks Paul, I had no intention of spreading bad info. And honestly, I don't care how rare it is. I'm thrilled to be getting a Rickenbacker with a maple fingerboard. Some day I hope to add a first gen 4004 Cheyenne with a maple fingerboard to my stable.

Check with Wildwood Guitars in CO, they seem to have the best pricing on new Rics.

By the way, Wildwood just got 4 JetGlos in today. You can buy one of these (or Ruby or MapleGlo) for less than what most sellers will sell their used versions for.

I bought one of those Jet Glo's the 23rd. There were only 2 left. I looked today now there all gone.
I paid $1550.00 for mine.

The guy I talked to said they ordered the JG's over a yr ago. They have 9 Rubies there. Not a popular color I guess?

Thanks for the heads up ! I bought the first of the 4 JG's , which was the lightest at 9lbs. And Yes , also at a price much lower than the used ones are asking all over the net. Cheers

I got my Walnut just last week from Sam Ash for $1650. My Walnut was made in October! I dealt with the same sales rep. List was $2195 & the tag said $1938.

I heard musicians friend pays right around $900 for a 4003, which makes since when they didnt blink selling me a 4003 in mapleglo for $1080 almost 3 years ago.

I bought a new Ric 4003 Jetglo from Musicians Friend back in 2002 for around $900. Should have gotten TWO at that price I guess!

I remember about 12 years ago you could get good used Rics on ebay for about $500 and brand new Rics for about $850

I finally bit the bullet and came to grips with current market values and ordered a Fireglo. I was dead set on a walnut version, but changed my mind last minute. I figured the prices weren't likely to go down, so what the heck. I wish I were in the market back in '02, but clearly times have changed and it is what it is.

MF finally allowed a 15% off discount after many denied attempts on my behalf. Usually they claim the discounts don't apply to Rickenbacker. I must have caught them on a good day.

Congrats on your new FireGlo! That is a gorgeous color. Ironic that when I was younger and enthusiastic about learning the bass, I had all kinds of time, but no money. As I grew older, I finally had the money for nice equipment, but no time (I was too busy making all that money). I was surprised to see a 4003 for $900 even back in 2002, so it didn't take long for me to pull the trigger on that one Unfortunately I ordered a MB, and they sent me a JetGlo. It was so pretty and played so nicely that I just kept it instead of returning it and waiting another few months.
