Rickenbacker crooked pick ups

Is it hidden? Would it affect the tone? If the answer to the first question is no or the answer to the second question is yes, then it would matter.

Again, KEY POINT: It is a functional part, not a visible part. Like a brake line on your car. The only way position matters is if it affects the function or durability.
It is a visible part, that's how he found it.

Shoddy work, for sure. There's absolutely no excuse for something like that on such an expensive bass.

Exactly. How dare Rickenbacker leave the area under the truss rod cover partially unfinished as well! Someone might take it off and have to look at an aesthetically imperfect (even though fully functional) part of a bass. Rickenbacker should ensure that all parts that are shipped with a cover over them are perfect in appearance, just in case someone takes the cover off!

It is a visible part, that's how he found it.

And by visible you mean "covered when he bought the bass."

Yes I suppose that is correct. Imagine his disappointment when he removed the pickup cover so he could actually play the thing!

Awesome sink!

I like the retro cupboards!

I found some nice hardwood under my 5 (!) layers of kitchen flooring last July, but only about half of it was re-useable.
Thanks, guys! This was a real labor of love for me in designing the kitchen, months of tweaking it and looking for all the hardware, sink, soapstone, range hood, etc.; what it replaced was pretty dismal.

I guess you've never heard of pride in workmanship.

If someone buys a Chinese knock-off guitar, then they can expect some wonky crud. If someone puts out a very good chunk of cash for a (supposed) top of the line instrument, then they should expect, and get, nothing less.

I suppose that you'd think it was fine if you popped the hood on your brand new Ferrari and the engine was in sideways with a few bolts missing... after all it's hidden under the hood...

Another thread filled with Rick hating knuckleheads.

Hyperbole aside, you're begging the question, which is whether a slight tilt to a non-visible and functioning part is a problem of workmanship. I don't think it is. And while I'm extremely unlikely to ever own a Ferrari, new or otherwise, I don't think a slight angle (that in no way influenced functionality) on some stuff under the hood would bother me (your example of sideways with bolts missing is, as seems habitual for you, hyperbole and a poor analogy with the topic at hand).

But Rickenhaters gonna hate, even if that means leaving subjects where they may have legitimate gripes (poor customer service, bad finishes on some instruments) for those where they just seem ridiculous, such as this one.

I'm not sure where the "Rickenhaters" thing comes from, really. We're talking about basic quality control here, it's not rocket science. I mean, how difficult can it be to install a pickup straight? Other companies mange to put 'em in straight all the time!

And I certainly don't hate Rickenbacker as a company, or Rickenbacker instruments. I personally think that they happen to be some of the coolest looking instruments out there, and they sound amazing in the hands of Chris Squier, Paul McCartney, Geddy Lee, and of course, who could forget Lemmy? And guitars? Some of the greats have made history with their instruments, all the while looking cool as @#!*... The Beatles, The Byrds, Oasis, The Jam... the list is endless. So, Rickenhater? I don't think so. All we're asking for here is some basic quality control.

You're still begging the question, because what is disputed here is whether this is a failure of quality control. I don't believe it is. The pickup functions perfectly and was covered when it left the factory. The aesthetic question of perfect alignment only arises if the bass is modified, and I don't think the manufacturer has a duty to ensure that parts it designs to be covered will be aesthetically perfect if they are uncovered by modification.

You mean, like those in cars such as the various 206 and 308 through 328 models, for example, right?

Actually, there were quite a few Ferraris with their engines at a slight lateral angular displacement to make room for the steering column, primarily in sports racers from the '50s and '60s.

But if the installer has the option of installing it straight why in the world would anyone with any pride in their job choose to install it crooked? It just appears to be lazy, hap hazard workmanship.

*facepalm*.

Every thread about Rickenbackers or even when Ricks get mentioned often include a bunch of jackasses chiming in about how Rickenbacker sucks. And while it's true that criticizing Rick doesn't mean someone is hater, there are too many people who feel the need to remind everybody how much they don't like ricks or the company.
