Rickenbacker crooked pick ups

Correct. It's a completely logical expectation to want a bass as expensive as a Ric to be constructed with care and an eye for detail. But to hold Rickenbacker to these very reasonable standards is seen as a vitriolic attack at Rickenbacker by the John Hall apologists in here.
It's fairly pathetic.
It's pretty simple. If you think Rics don't offer the quality you are after, don't buy one.
There are many, many people, like me, who like Rics, and have had great experiences owning and playing them for the past - dare I say - 40 years.
All I can say is I'm sorry you don't like them.

I doubt there are any John Hall apologists in this thread. And there are at least a few of us Rick fans who love the products but also recognize that RIC has it's problems sometimes. A crooked bridge pickup shouldn't happen. But it's not the end of world like some people seem to think.
For some reason people seem to think that Ricks always have issues. And the reason for this is that when someone has a problem, they're going to complain. And if they happen to post here, we're going to hear about it.
What's pathetic are people showing up in this thread to contribute nothing of value. Whether pro or anti RIC.

Oh, really? I'm sorry you feel that way. I have expressed my opinion on the topic which is what many others have done, I have backed up my opinion with good logic. If you don't like that, that's fine. If you don't agree with that, that's fine.
Internet forums are just people expressing their opinions and their views on topics, if you have a problem with that then I don't know how to help you.
Just read through the whole thing. These Ric threads never fail to entertain. Everyone always gets their britches up in a wad, and it's degenerates so quickly that its actually amusing. Ric is awful, how dare you criticize Ric, and the like bla bla bla.
Yet, the most important part of this whole thread, and negates almost ALL the arguing, is in the very first post, and the one that I don't think I saw anyone comment on.
The OP - who is obviously a fan of the instruments, as this isn't his first - knew exactly what he was going to do, and did it before he started the thread. He was just looking for similar experiences, and what he got was the usual Fireglo flame war, which he happily sidestepped.

Well said. Even more ludicrous, people get put into "sides" even if they don't belong there. I LOVE Rickenbacker, they are my favorite bass guitars, yet just because I criticize the QC coming out of the company I am labelled as some Ric Hater.

This is the first time I've ever dropped into a Ric thread, and yeah, the claws come out pretty quickly! But this is nothing new here in TB Land, it's the same thing when ever there's a post about Fender... anything! The battle lines are very quickly drawn up, everyone grabs a pointy stick, and the the craziness ensues. Regardless of what you may say... agree, disagree, sit on the fence, you're accused of being a hater and a troll.
Of course if they didn't put it in a hole that's so much bigger than the pickup, it wouldn't be able to be crooked. You know, like every other bass on the planet ...
the OP didn't show a photo of the pickup being crooked before he took it apart or did he? You have to take apart nearly the whole assembly to remove the pickup cover, perhaps the OP did not take the care to re-install it properly. I had a hard time getting everything back together the first time I removed one of those.
ok the other 2 pictures seem to indicate that he does know how to re-install the pickup, as they look fine. nevermind
I love Rickenbackers, I really do. I own (and have owned) a bunch of them, both guitars and basses. But I am surprised when I get one out of the box and it doesn't require some kind of work to get it to where it's playable. Nut work, fret work, etc. And some of them have problems beyond repair, like the neck hump in a 360/12 or a 4004cI that couldn't get the action lower than 1/4" at the 12th fret even with the neck ramrod straight.
It is possible for those of us with IQs over room temperature to hold two ideas in our heads at the same time. One idea: Rics are awesome, iconic instruments that I can't get enough of. Other idea: Rickenbacker has well-documented QC issues that are irksome, especially when you run into far fewer issues on MIM Fenders, Korean Epiphones, and other far less expensive instruments. And this doesn't even take Ric's deplorable customer service attitude into account. But I love their instruments so I put up with it. I don't pretend it doesn't exist, though. My bridge pickups appear to be straight but if one were crooked it would bother me, seen or unseen. That's basic QC as so many others have already pointed out.

I know the feeling, Rick is so sexy and cool that even if he abuses me I still put up with it because I love him so much and he can change with a little work. Ill still fool around with a Fender occasionally but Rick is my man.
Played my 4001 exclusively for over 30 years loving it and would love to pull the trigger on a new S model 4003. On the one hand, if I liked the tone I'd have no real problems with it unless I wanted to install one of these bezels and it wouldn't fit and that would frustrate me. did we ever get an answer about if they have screws on the back that you can realign the bobbin with? My 4001 did, but never needed it.
