Rickenbacker found- advice please?

Awesome. I love JetGlo.
If you have any scratches in it, it's very very easy to take out.
When I got mine, there were some bubble blemishes where the paint had risen up a bit. This isn't unusual. Mine is an '86 4003S/5 JetGlo.
After finding out the fix over at the RRF, it was a matter of taking some 1000-2000 grit sandpaper and wet sanding it back down, then using Scratch-X and Zymol on it.
There were a couple of dings on the head. I got some black lacquer nail polish and put that on, then did the sandpaper/Scratch-X treatment.
It looks brand new now.
Your binding is starting to age nicely. Yellow is good.
On the pickup cover, I wouldn't bother too much. If you do like/want to have a pickup cover, I believe you can pick one up on either ebay or go to rickenbacker.com and get one.
Great score. I need a four string now.
Oh, and this makes 2 Rics that I've seen people get great deals ($500 or less) on here in the last week or so. I need to keep a lookout...

that is a good deal! I would have grabbed that in a minute...watch for ric deals, they are out there! it is just a matter of taking your time and looking...

I don't think I would sell it for anything right now. Just amazing to me. Might have to work on the electronics a litte bit but no biggie. One of the input jacks is a little crackly and the toggle switch seems to need replacement. Other than that, good to go! Plays beautifully.
Nice score, and also nice to see someone get a used Ric and not have to shuck out $3K.

No. A lot of guys remove them. I have always left mine on, but to each his own.

Yep!! I never noticed it before, but a quick measurement of my '80 4001 (also JetGlo, by the way) reveals that the difference between the E and G in the space on the neck side of the pup mounting is about 1.5 mm. Bummed? You bet! Until I plug it into my Marshall and start pulling strings!!!
un be freaking leavable. I paid 3 times that in USD for a new one and although it was new, it doesn't have the character of a bass nearly as old as I am. enjoy!
As far as the scratchy pup selector switch, 9 times out of 10, all it needs is cleaning. Use super fine grit sandpaper on the contacts, should be good to go. Great score, enjoy it.
Sometimes it just cuts out the sound entirely, but only in the up or down position depending on which jack I am plugged into. Same idea? Need to download the manual, I have no idea how this thing works!
