Rickenbacker Issue

ok so i want a Rickenbacker like many of people do, the problem is i live in Kansas City, and the only place that has one is musicians friend, who wont let me touch it unless i buy it on the spot, doesnt make sense, how do they expect someone to drop that much money if they dont make them available to play anywhere, anyways, is there by chance anyone near kansas city that has one that i can play.. its a long shot i know but i dont know what else to do, any advice would be appreciated

MF has a 45 day no hassle return policy.

Is it a new Ric or a used Ric? If it's used, you probably wouldn't lose anything on the resale if you absolutely hated it. You could also ask them if you could play it first because some of the 4003's have weak E strings (just like some Stingrays have weak G's). If they don't let you try it...then they're not worth your business.

All this BS from rick ß co,its about time they got a kick in the b,ass. So fantastic are there products ?Idon't think so.Dont get me wrong I've had at least one Rick since the 70's,something cult,Geddy or what ever but there gonna one day be hurt'n when we say,the Fender etc.does the job and sometimes better for less than half the price.
Ricks are great but who is soon gonna be able to afford to buy one.(for sale 60's Preci need money for a Rick)lets hope we don't get this far.

Not on Rics. Rickenbacker doesn't allow it. They just don't have it posted on the site, but will tell you if you call. (and you get an intelligent person on the other end)

Where did you get this info? I returned a Ric to MF once. Ric will be the last firm to have a problem with getting returns because they sell them faster than they can make them. Besides, they are returned to MF not to Ric.

Back to OP: Rics are a safe bet to purchase sight unseen IME. They may have very minor finish imperfections (check around the bridge) but they are very playable and 100% functional OOTB. What drove me crazy about them is the huge imbalance between the outputs of the bridge and neck pups but YMMV.

Grammar and punctuation are your friends. Why are you ignoring them?

new for $1949, and ya theyll let me try it if i buy in on the spot, due to the fact that he himself has to go the the warehouse and get one and bring it to the store, i dont know its just rediculous, its not like i live in some podunk town

I picked one randomly from a store that had about 10 or so in stock. I did look at it for a few minutes, but for all intents, it was the same as what you are thinking about doing. It's a great bass. If there are any major flaws, RIC warrenty will cover it. Over the last 37-38 years or so, I have had over 100 RIC's, literally, and the new ones are awesome. I got a 08 4003 Jetglo. It's dead sexy. Really nice neck. Typical adjustments were made, pickups, etc., but thats normal for all RIC's.

By this time next month, my first Ric should be in my hands. I said I wanted to try one and one came along and I jumped on it. Jetglo '81 4003 with OHSC. Nicely broke in but not abused. Its got that nice warm mojo to it. Nope, never touched one before. Ive read lots of comments for and against them by others. I dont see any issues for me but who knows. For what I'm paying/trading for it, its all good and I don't see it leaving my hands anytime soon.
