Rickenbacker P-Bass ?

Sorry if this has been posted before.



That has to be modified Rickenbacker rite? Anyone knows background of that :eyebrow: Also, anyone knows what are those white 'stripes' on backside of neck?
Ohh and yes, sick skills of whole trio ;)

It's probably a real Ric. Over the years, I've seen many different customized Rics. I've seen Gibson EB gigantic pickups put in, I've seen Jazz bass pickups put in, I've seen 3 pickup custom jobs..to put in a P-bass pick up and to plop in a custom cut pickguard to cover all of the hacking wouldn't really be all that unusual taking everything into account.

It sounded awesome and for the same reason why you wanted to drop one in.

I got the bass for free from my Uncle and it had a replaced headstock from another Ric, brass nut, brass frets, Bad Ass bridge and had a varitone installed. It was wired Volume, Blend, Tone, Varitone. The switch I think switched the pickups to series/parallel.

Afterwards I had my friend make me a pickguard with the P-bass route cut out so the lower edge of it was flush with the bridge pickup with the DiMarzio in between the two. It just had a volume control and was wired into the Ric-O-Sound so when you plugged into one input it'd be pure Ric, and if plugged into the other it'd be pure P-bass. Plugged together it was pure awesome.

I lent it to a friend of mine a couple of years ago who had his bass stolen or he sold it (I honestly don't remember anymore) and he needed the bass to go on tour. So I lent it to him and never got it back (which is why its in Connecticut) I still see my friend when he's in NY but he always has an excuse as to why he doesn't have the bass. I think he just likes it too much.

That is a real Ric 4000, set neck. The pickguard, pickup, and tuners have been changed. The tape is simply a visual aid. I know some people think it is a sin to modify a Rickenbacker, but if that video is any indication, it was sinfully good to my ears.

And Paul Gilbert is a freak of nature.

I'd never modify mine too... well I thought so till I've seen this vid I posted :D Great sound Linus gets out of it indeed!!!!

It's interesting how this instrument still sounds a lot like a Ric in spite of only having a P-Bass pickup.
