Rickenbacker Slap (vid inside)

Hello!

Afetr the fect of listening everywere that ricks were not basses for slaping, i gave them a try.

I was in New York and had the chance of trying many basses, so i had my brother film me while playing in a store.

The veredict:
The doesnt have the traditional slap tone, kind of over-compressed. The dont sound bad either!

They are uncomfotable though, the big pickups bother. The one i tried had light strings and low action, so that helped.

Didn't sound bad at all. IMO, for all the other tones Ricky's do awesomely, the slap tone isn't unacceptable at all.

Cool, that looks like an old '70s 4001; the center stripe going down the neck and the neck pickup spacing gives it away.

I saw the last CLaypool DVD (the one that has vids form all his bands) and he was slapping on a Rick in a live video...

I didnt like its tone, though it wasnt unnaceptable

BTW, I'm currently looking for an acoustic duck call to complete this fine work. I'm not interested in any of the digitally sampled Duck calls, they have no real mojo.

IMHO, the worst tone I've ever heard Claypool get. Only the popped notes actually exsist. The slaped muted notes don't sound like muted notes. They sound... lifeless. I'm not even sure how to put it, but I know I don't like it.

All the other videos posted I've loved the tone (especially the OP's). Just not that Claypool vid.

I prefer the ric' slap tone in the videos to my jazz's slap tone.

I like the growl-factor.

In my opinion, the problem with slapping the Ric has never been the sound. The proof is in the pudding, or this video actually. I think the problem that people have is the way the bass feels when you slap it. I have only played one, and I have to say that when I slapped it, it felt really "stiff" and like I had to work really hard to get the good sound.
