It was also written years ago on TalkBass, that all you need to do is play “karaoke bass”….I love Slayer and Araya's a beast, but I think you can get his "tone" on any rig, just turn down all your mids and highs.

Here's a good isolated track for South of heaven. Sounds like a PJ bass or maybe that dual P BC Rich. It's pretty good tone but it doesn't really stand out in the mix. It's a lot better than the other isolated track I've heard.
Heheheh … I first heard slayer when I was a high school junior in ‘84 and I’m pretty sure the iso track above is the first time I’ve heard Tom clearly…I’ve been listening to Slayer for ~35 years and have never even contemplated the bass tone before reading this thread.
You mean Tom's actually plugged in? I always though he just held that thing to look cool.Hi everyone, I'm new but have been following you for a long time. compliments. I have a question, it's actually more of a curiosity. Do any of you play cover slayer with a rick 4003 and if so, what tone settings do you choose?
Ha, me tooI’ve been listening to Slayer for ~35 years and have never even contemplated the bass tone before reading this thread.
