I owned that one for a while ... it is a 2002 4003 ... one of the last black trim basses that Rickenbacker made ... I used it as wall art for a couple of years since I don't play 4 string basses ... it is 100% stock ... the only mod it the pickup cover was removed.
I just love that blonde ric of Ric5's. Will have to think about a black bound/black hardware blonde one if I ever make a mark3.
Lespaulmarshall: those TRC crescents are very easy to cut out with a fretsaw from a piece of white pickguard plastic blank
This one says RickenBaker as I'm making it for Owen Baker, the bass playing son of our bands singer.
wow, i hadnt seen this thead before, unfortunatly i have to go to school, in like 5 minutes, but i will deffinetly read the whole thing when i get home
Final bit of routing - bridge pickup. Second use of the B&Q copper pipe, a little trick learnt on the forum for making the wiring holes from crtl cavity to bridge and pickup cavity easier to drill - always scares me doing that bit. The drill bit stuck into the end of the pipe with a blob of epoxy makes the job a lot easier and a lot less risky.
I think the whole bill came to about £350 - £380 but then theres a few tools I had to buy, some new router bits, extra clamps, wear and tear on finishing goods, lacquer, etc. thats harder to quantify.
Pickguardian delivered today, machine heads from Gav's ebay shop. Here's all the bits in place - final sanding, tru-oil finishing and nut-cutting left on the agenda.
Not posted up a prog shot for a while. body and neck have been tru-oiled and waxed. Bridge and rear pup fitted, some more wiring work needed then a good fret levelling and set up.
Sweet project. I came across this and it inspired me to start my own build (and join TB). It's got some Ric influence but is mostly of my own creation. The sound clip link was broken when I tried to listen. Maybe we could hear the second generation results when the time is right. Keep up the crazy good work.
