Thanks guys, this is working out as a great GAS therapy. I haven't really been interested in buying or even much for looking at basses in the classifieds since I started the project. Too bad I've figured out how to spend as much on parts as on basses!

Looks like there's no way I'm going to be finished by the time your birthday rolls around Punkster... Maybe next year ;)

It's different, that's for sure! I basically made the cad model of the body with the conical ramp into the neck area then made the neck model swell just like usual except I pulled most of the swelled area back into the body and added the fillets. Excuse the mess, I'll start cleaning it all up and smoothing out the contours and such when all the shaping and inlaying is done. Almost there!

Dark Horse, I don't know if you can tell from the pics, but I ended up not reshaping the body. I figured I may as well cut it and have a look before altering it. I figured it looks a lot better in person than in the unshaded, non-textured 2D drawing so I called it good =)

Both fretted. I already have two fretless basses to ignore and I don't want to build a third one ;)

I put stainless frets on the last one and I've felt some kind of stickiness like my stainless strings may be galling on the frets sometimes. It feels smooth as long as I use nickel strings but I prefer stainless. I've got gold hardware for the cherry bass and chrome for the mixed wood bass, so I bought one piece of EVO (gold colored) fretwire and one standard nickel/silver. After getting the wires in my hands and checking them out I decided to use the EVO wire on everything regardless of color.

I'm using FW55090 wire from Luthiers Mercantile. I like it a lot!

ohhh i see... 0.055" height x 0.090" width, kinda like a mix between jumbo (in height) and a vintage (in width) seems nice enough, a little room to file and crown them. nice choice, and looking forward to see the finished basses ;)

Pearl inlay on maple. Whatta ya think of it? Was pretty bland looking when I sanded everything flush but before buying black lip shell and cutting the inlays out I decided to see if the Rustin's would make much difference. Yep, it did...

Progress again! Installed the side dots. I put pearl side dots in the first bass I built and I can't see them half the time so nothing fancy here. Just the white plastic 2mm rod from lmii. Proud of my scarf joints ;)

Also spent about 8 hours sanding today and put a first coat of Rustin's on. I still have a little work to do before It's really ready for finish but I wanted to see! I can't believe how much darker the mahogany is with finish on it . :eek:

STILL thinking about cutting those pearl inlays out and replacing them with blacklip pearl. They look pretty good but when I get it next to the paua inlay... man, that paua is outstanding. I'll probably leave it but I have some black lip on order. We'll have to see how that ends up, right now I just don't know!

can I borrow your CNC to do some block inlays for me...LMAO I have 3 comming up with blocks, your way looks much easier than me doing it by hand.....LMFAO Looking good.
I really do like the body style Ric/Aerodyne really came out more tasteful than I expected.
