Ric's Position On Their Bridges??

What makes you think that I thought that this was common??

I've got lots of first-hand experience with anti-Ric spin. First, you post that highly suspicious photo. And then comes this...

The fact is though, that i've read more threads about QC issues in regards to Rics than any other bass on the planet. Part of this may be that their owners expect more from a $2000 bass and are picky, but part of it is also that you should expect to have no issues in a $2000 bass. Part of it may be that when a rare issue strikes it's a crap fight to get it fixed by the Ric factory without jumping through hoops and paying for shipping yourself prompting the owner to start a thread here.

A page right out of the Ric Haters Manual. Cliche much? (BTW, anyone who pays $2K for a new Ric 4003 is a chump, they can be had from several highly reputable Ric dealers for more like $1,599 every day, and these folks will have your back if it's not 100%--but exaggeration is also a chapter of the Ric Haters Manual).

Here's the bottom line:

If this, and any other of the other reported well known issues (finish problems and crooked pickup installation for example) that are written about on this site by Ric owners were too common, they wouldn't still be selling them quicker than they can make them.

Remarkably, despite the efforts of the tiny vocal minority, smart consumers know that one bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch. That must be why there are so many silent but happy Ric owners out there and so many lining up for one.

Maybe we don't hear about it from other manufacturers basses so much as they fix problems without drama.

Ho ho ho! Good one! Oh, wait...you're serious bro? Um, okay...

Wow..... nobody gets overly defensive like a Ric fanboy do they.

What do you mean by "anti Ric spin"? Do you think there are people deliberately trying to sabotage Rickenbacker? You're sounding as paranoid as John Hall has on occasion.

By the way... i don't hate Rics at all. I just wouldn't buy a new one. Second hand only.

Same here. Never again. Waiting on a ruby 4003s to pop up on evilbay or gumtree.

To the OP: once again, stick with the stock bridge if you like it. If it gives you problems, you can consider the Hipshot.

But don't listen to the haters and run out to blow money on a bridge you might not need.

Remember that TB is full of haters and fanbois (I freely admit to drinking the Kool-Aid after playing my Ric in public). As long you like your Ric there's no need to mod it. I removed the pickup cover on the first string change and store it in the case. That's a personal preference, not a design issue. The stock bridge is pretty much the same way.

They probably DO cost that (in US Dollars) by the time Bag gets one. He's in Oz, remember. And over here they cost £1700-ish which works out to be US$2222, so there ya have it!
Actually, the $2000 thing is what i've read here on TB most commonly. Here in Australia the [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] $3400 at one of the biggest guitar stores in the country.

This ^^^
If it's working and not lifting (and it probably won't) stay with it. In the unlikely event that it does lift..... replace it.

Good point, he didn't specify AU dollars, and they're made in the USA so I assumed he meant US dollars.

I was actually referring to US dollars as most mentions of Rics that i've seen here on TB refer to them being "a $2000 bass" although most Ric NBD threads appear to be paying in the $1500 US range. The cheapest second hand one i've seen here in Oz was around $2400, and it wasn't in the best of condition.

That $3400 new one equates to over $2500 US. and is the cheapest new one I can find.

Funny thing about that, if I'm a Ric fanboi, I guess I'm also a Fender fanboi, and Gibson, and Peavey, and about five other brands.

All imperfect companies with idiosyncrasies. ALL, regardless of price point. Most of them wouldn't even give you the time of day if you called their offices with a quality control complaint.

It's sad people think they have to unfairly bash gear manufacturers just for kicks. It usually says more about the poster than the gear and goes against the spirit of the forum. There used to be a rule against that here on TB.

Well, we all know that if it's on an internet forum, it must be true.

Too bad you can't hook up with one of the reputable dealers here in the states like Wildwood Guitars in Louisville, Colorado. These folks go over their inventory with a fine tooth comb to avoid passing along a QC issue. They sell the standard 4003 in Jet, Maple, and Fire Glo in the $1599 range. Of course, they can't protect you from 1/16th inch of meaningless tail lift developing over time.

But then even that used Ric you're hoping for could develop a bit of tail lift. Maybe it's not the bass for you?

OK, i'll finish after this.

I simply posted a photo of an obviously very exaggerated rare occurrence, that was most likely not a Ric, and you immediately insulted me by calling me gullible and thereby calling into question my intelligence.

Go back and read all my posts and show me anywhere that I've "bashed" Rics. I didn't at all. I did make mention of the fact that it's not unusual to have problems with Ric customer service when rare QC issues arise which isn't bashing them, just stating something that has been reported on many occasions.

Thanks for the fun.

Yeah, well, you didn't mention that the pic was exaggerated, or rare, or probably not even a Ric, until others filled you in. And you stated as fact that a Ric 4003 is a $2,000.00 bass, when it's not. So you were a bit misleading with your posts, or ill-informed, or both.

I find misinformation a bit insulting to my intelligence too, so I know how you feel.

Let's call it even, shall we?

The only reason the OP doesn't have a problem with the bridge, that some people (not the majority) take issue with is because someone else set it up. They're great bridges, otherwise. And only mildly annoying to intonate, at the very most.
