Ok so all together i have an Ashdown 180 watt 15 inch combo, a crate 4x10, a sansamp VT pedal and my MIM P, now normally the 180 watt combo is more than enough for gigs, i added the 4x10 just because i could afford it and it pushed up the 180 to 300 whenever i did need it, but i was at GC and saw a Ampeg Rocket Bass 100 for a price i couldn't pass up!

So now i'm wondering what i should keep as far as amps go, I think the Ampeg will be loud enough for what we play, small / medium venues, so should i sell off the ashdown and the cab and the VT pedal and upgrade my bass? Or sell off everything amp wise and start over? If i sold them all i'd have a nice little fund for a nice head / cab, i'm thinking lightweight / one trip from car kinda deal, but something still loud enough to keep up with our drummer / guitarist. Also i've been wanting to put either a jazz pickup or a MM humbucker in the bass to give the P more flexability, plus i really like the MM sound, so opinions or comments on what i should do / not do and on best route / options to go with? Thanks!

I wouldn't sell off anything until you're sure the Ampeg will cut it. And I'd never sell off the VT because it's a great pedal even if you own an Ampeg. As for the bass, see if you can try out an American P Deluxe and a MIM P Deluxe before you add any more pickups. The MIM has a J pickup and the MIA has a pickup similar to a MM humbucker.

yea i think i'm just gonna sell the ashdown combo and the crate cab, keep the ampeg and the VT, the VT ups my sound to where i think i can easily keep up with our drummer and guitarist, plus i love the gritty overdrive so i'll still use it as a pedal. Rent here i come! never thought i'd downsize to an ampeg!

What would i have to do to install a new bridge pup? Would I have to do more for a jazz or a MM pup?

Definitely gonna take your advice and see if the ampeg will make it through a gig situation though before i sell the others off, i think i'm gonna love how it sounds while recording though so i might not even care if it can make it in gig situations, as long as i can stick it up on a case or something and the band can hear it i'm cool =P I can't put my cab through the line out on the ampeg can i? Some of my brain is telling me to sell all my amps and stuff and go lightweight with a nice cab or two, keeping the VT, i need some beano or something!

Nope. That's for hooking it up to another amp. However, if it has a second SPEAKER out, you can use that.

The Ampeg does not have an extension speaker jack.

You can run the line-out from the Ampeg to the Ashdown.

From the Ampeg manual:
14. Line Out supplies a mono signal
for connecting to a mixing console,
tape recorder or external
amplifier. The signal is pre-Master
and post-EQ.

The Ampeg is 100w. See how it does at gigs. It may not be enough.
