Double Bass Right angle cord into Fishman Full Circle

Just bought a D'addario right angle jack cord. When connected to the Fishman Full Circle, it works but makes a crackling sound. A straight cord works fine. Returned the cord to the store and got another, and it has the same problem. Anyone seen something like this? Or can you tell me a right angle cord that works for you with this pickup?

That's odd. Just gonna toss out some ideas here; Could be strain related somehow. Try rotating the Jack 180 degrees maybe. Like the tab that holds on to the A-string afterlength, flip it to the D, etc. Try wrapping/loosely tying the cord around the tailpiece as a type of strain relief. Put some alcohol or contact cleaner on a Q-tip and clean the contacts in the Jack. Roll up a little very fine sandpaper and use that to clean the contacts on the jack. If all that fails, plug the 90 degree side into the amp and the straight side into the bass. Those are the steps I'd try, probably in that order too.

I use a right angle cord in my Full Circle with no problems so far.

Also check the rca to 1/4 connection at the end of the wire

I've had several problems with certain types of cable ends going into the FC. Some cable companies, including a few expensive ones, have changed the shape of the tip of the shaft slightly, claiming it helps make a more secure connection.

This might be true for certain types of jacks, but is not true for the FC. With these cable types and the FC, it seems that the slight weight of a straight connector coming out of the jack helps keep the connection solid, most of the time - although when I really whack an open D, not always. But the angled connection with these new type of cables doesn't have the same leverage and IME is more susceptible to vibration.

I have been using cables with Neutrik connectors for years, and their more conventional design doesn't seem to have this issue with the FC jack. I also like the straight connector, as it keeps the cable from rattling against the top of the bass.

Interesting. I've not had a problem with the mogami silver cable with a right end connector that GC sells fwiw.

Like @oren, I use a right angle cable with no problems. However, I once had a problem that I thought was cable-related but actually turned out to be a bad jack (probably worn after three or so years of use) in the Fishman. My luthier replaced just the "barrel" of the pickup and the problem went away.

Interesting update to this thread. I used the same cable with a different bass, this one with a Realist pickup. It had the same problem. When I reversed the cable and put the straight end into the pickup jack, it was fine.

There are indeed some TS plugs that don't work well together with some jacks. I prefer to make my cables myself, because it is cheaper, I can get the best parts that fit my pocket and if something doesn't work well I can easily change that part. The money saved from the industrial made cables can be put into high quality parts and a quality (not necessarily highest quality) soldering iron.

Of course if you only need one or two cables and have no time to learn to solder it it doesn't make sense, but if you also have some studio equipment, it is worth learning it and making cables yourself.
