Get the VIN and a Carfax report. There really isn't enough info in the post, but at 175K miles I'd be looking hard at the drivetrain and suspension no matter what the make and model.

I did some research for ya.

If it's a 3.2L, the KBB value is actually $6,479 - not exactly the amount he's claiming - and that's in EXCELLENT condition.
If it's a 3.6L, the KBB value is actually $7,179 - still not exactly what is being claimed - and again, that's in excellent condition.

Just for the record, I used the Lake St. Louis zip 63367.

Also, fwiw, I optioned the car out on KBB - Lux package, Bose sound, Stabilitrak and all that, and it STILL didn't come up to the $9,325 being claimed as KBB value. All of the above numbers are "private party" figures, also.

NADA values are a little lower, but around the same ball park, for the optioned-out CTS.

That being said, in your area it looks like high-mileage CTSs area going for nearly $10K from retail sellers via Autotrader. On Craigslist, however, there are other, probably better deals - this one looks better, still in that price range:

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed] - Black 06 CTS

I would look at this one, but be very picky. If it's not in excellent running condition, with a (relatively) clean Carfax, and the seller is willing to wiggle, I'd probably pass it by.
